El Demócrata Ed Gallagher y el Republicano Dick Barr se miden en la carrera por ser Miembro del Consejo del Distrito 3 del Condado de Lake, puesto que deja vacante Tom Weber, quien declinó a su postulación por reelegirse.
El Distrito 3 incluye áreas de Round Lake Beach y Lake Villa, Lindenhurst y Round Lake Heights. La Junta del Condado de Lake decide asuntos financieros y pólizas que afectan a todos los gobiernos dentro de la jurisdicción, pero los miembros de la Junta no representan a todo el Condado, así esté al pendiente para la próxima edición de PF News donde cubriremos los candidatos de su distrito.

Ed Gallagher
Ed Gallagher obtuvo una doble titulación en Ciencias Políticas y Comunicaciones de la Universidad Estatal de Illinois. Ha trabajado en política como asesor y profesional de servicio constituyente para políticos respetados, incluida la Senadora Melinda Bush, durante los últimos tres años y medio.
El candidato actualmente ayuda a las personas a navegar el proceso para calificar para servicios gubernamentales. Gallagher explicó cómo “ha trabajado en el interior, él entiende cómo evaluar lo qué políticas gubernamentales van a hacer y cómo van a afectar a los residentes”.
El político se postula para el cargo porque cree que “es hora para una nueva generación de líderes. El demócrata señala cómo “en las últimas elecciones, hemos visto los mismos nombres reciclados, y cómo estamos en un punto crucial en términos de impuestos de propiedad”. Gallagher tiene como objetivo “reducir el aumento constante de los impuestos de propiedad y romper [la actitud de] negocio primero”.
Quiere lograr la equidad mediante la realización de un estudio sobre los impuestos de propiedad e instituyendo una declaración de derechos del contribuyente. Respondiendo al escándalo de que el Presidente del Condado estaba usando la tarjeta de crédito del Condado para usos personales, el candidato llamó a la transición a un sistema de reembolso de gastos tradicional, donde todas las compras se divulgan públicamente.

Dick Barr
El republicano Dick Barr ha sido agente de bienes raíces por casi 15 años, y trabaja con impuestos de propiedad diariamente. También sirve en Comités de Gobierno y Asuntos Políticos para Asociaciones de REALTORS.
Conservador fiscal, señala cómo “las personas tienen que vender sus casas por qué ya no pueden pagar la carga de impuestos”.
Barr enfatiza que la principal causa de su plataforma es cómo el gobierno del condado necesita ser más responsable y transparente en términos de propiedad, impuestos y gastos. Elabora que “fuera de los 3000 condados en el país, el Condado de Lake está en los 10 más altos en impuestos de propiedad.
Quiere educar al público sobre cómo luchar para reducir los impuestos de propiedad a nivel estatal, porque señala que el condado no tiene mucho control sobre eso. El político también está enfocado en mejorar la infraestructura, aumentar las inversiones comerciales, crear comunidad y optimizar los servicios para reducir la duplicación entre funciones y departamentos.
Barr isualiza reducir los impuestos de propiedad cambiando la forma en que financiamos las escuelas a nivel estatal y evaluando los programas antes de incluirlos en el presupuesto. Barr ha sido miembro de la Junta Directiva del Centro Cultural y Cívico de Round Lake Beach y la Junta Directiva de Junior para Salva una Estrella Fundación de Concientización sobre Drogas. Actualmente es comisionado de Planificación y Zonificación de Round Lake Beach y miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Fundación de Policía de Round Lake Beach, donde trabaja para fortalecer la relación entre el departamento de policía y la comunidad.

Gallagher and Barr are looking for District 3
Democrat Ed Gallagher and Republican Dick Barr are running against each other in the race for District 3 Lake County Board Member of District 3. Current representative for the area Tom Weber will not be running again for the position.
District 3 includes parts of Round Lake Beach and Lake Villa and all of Lindenhurst and Round Lake Heights The Lake County Board decides financial matters and ordinances that affect all governments within the jurisdiction, but Board Members do not represent the whole County, so look out for the next PF News edition where we cover the candidates for your district.

Ed Gallagher
Democrat Ed Gallagher obtained a dual degree in Political Science and Communications from Illinois State University. He has worked in politics as an advisor and constituent service professional for respected politicians, including Senator Melinda Bush, for the past three and half years. The candidate currently helps people navigate the process for qualifying for governmental services.
Gallagher explained how he “has been on the inside, so he understands how to evaluate what governmental policies are going to do and how they are going to affect residents” The politician is running for office because he believe “it’s time for a new generation of leaders to step up.” His main goal is to serve the residents and voters of Lake County with a “new perspective and a new vision,” and his platform is focused on tax relief and fairness, fiscal responsibility, increasing economic growth, and fighting the opioid epidemic.
The Democrat notes how “in the last few elections, we’ve seen the same names recycled through, and how we are in a crux when it comes to property taxes.” Gallagher aims to reduce “the constant increase in property taxes and break the business as usual [mindset].”
He wants to achieve fairness by conducting a study on property taxes and instituting a taxpayer bill of rights. Responding to the scandal that County Chairman was using the County credit card for personal uses, the candidate has called to transition to a traditional expenditure reimbursement system, where all purchases are publicly disclosed.

Dick Barr
Republican Dick Barr has been a real estate broker for close to 15 years, and he works with property taxes on a daily basis. The candidate serves on the Government and Political Issues Committees for Associations of REALTORS. A fiscal conservative, he notes how “people are having to sell their homes because they cannot longer afford the tax burden.”
Barr emphasizes that the main issue of his platform is how county government need to be more accountable and transparent in terms of property taxes and spending. He elaborates “how out of the 3000 counties in the country, Lake County is in the top 10 in property taxes.
The Republican wants to educate the public about how to fight to reduce property taxes at the state level, because he notes that the county does not have much control over that. The politician is also focused on improving infrastructure, increasing business investments, building community, and streamlining services in order to reduce duplication between functions and departments.
He envisions reducing property taxes by changing how we fund schools at a state level and assessing programs before including them in the budget. Barr has served on the Board of Directors for the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center and the Junior Board of Directors for Save a Star Drug Awareness Foundation.
He is currently a Round Lake Beach Planning and Zoning Commissioner and a member of the Board of Directors of the Round Lake Beach Police Foundation, where he works strengthen the relationship between the police department and the community.
