Una brutal pelea en Lake County Sports Center originó la tragedia.

Waukegan, IL.- Muere José Ochoa-Martínez, y otras cuatro más resultaron lesionadas, al ser atropellados por el vehículo que conducía Prisciliano Carranza, esto luego de una brutal pelea que se suscitó en las instalaciones del Lake County Sports Center de esta ciudad al finalizar un partido de futbol bajo techo.
Carranza logró darse a la fuga pero fue aprendido por la policía de Waukegan y puesto tras las rejas acusado de homicidio en primer grado y tiene una fianza de 5 millones de dólares.
Los hechos
El 4 de octubre de 2019, aproximadamente a las 11:40 pm, oficiales de la División de Patrullas del Departamento de Policía de Waukegan respondieron a una pelea reportada en el estacionamiento del Lake County Sports Center, ubicado en el bloque 300 Oakwood.
También se informó que alguien fue atropellado por un vehículo. Mientras que en el camino los oficiales fueron informados de que el vehículo sospechoso había huido de la escena. El vehículo sospechoso fue descrito como un SUV negro.
A su llegada, los oficiales encontraron a varias víctimas que habían sido golpeadas por el vehículo sospechoso. La víctima número 1 está siendo identificada como un hombre en sus 40 años. La víctima número 1 fue transportada a un hospital de la zona donde perdió la vida a consecuencia de las heridas. La víctima 2 es un joven adolescente. La víctima 3 es un varón en su adolescencia. La víctima 4 es una niña de 10 años. Las víctimas 1, 2, 3 y 4 están relacionadas. La víctima 5 es un hombre de unos 20 años. Todas las víctimas masculinas fueron transportadas a hospitales de la zona con lesiones moderadas y se espera que se recuperen. La víctima 4 no fue transportada.
Sobre la base de la gravedad del incidente, la División de Investigaciones Criminales y la División de Tráfico del Departamento de Policía de Waukegan fueron llamadas para investigar.
Cuando la investigación comenzaba, un oficial de patrulla detectó un SUV negro con daños en el frente y llevó a cabo una parada de tráfico. El SUV negro estaba ocupado con tres personas. Esas tres personas fueron llevadas al Departamento de Policía de Waukegan. En el Departamento de Policía de Waukegan el SUV negro fue identificado como el vehículo sospechoso y uno de los ocupantes fue identificado como el conductor del vehículo sospechoso, en el momento del incidente.
El SUV negro es un GMC 2010. Los investigadores creen que se produjo un altercado en el estacionamiento del centro deportivo cuando un partido de fútbol estaba terminando.
Prisciliano Carranza, de 22 años, residente de Waukegan conducía la GMC 2010 cuando atropelló a las víctimas descritas. Carranza ha sido acusado de asesinato en primer grado y fue llevado a la corte de fianzas.
Actualmente, Carranza está bajo la custodia de la cárcel de Lake County Illinois con una fianza de 5 millones de dólares y deberá comparecer en la corte el 29 de octubre de 2019.
El Dr. Howard Cooper, forense del Condado de Lake County, ha programado una autopsia para el 7 de octubre de 2019. Una vez completada la autopsia y se hayan hecho las notificaciones familiares adecuadas, el Dr. Cooper liberará la identidad de primera víctima.

El 5 de octubre de 2019, aproximadamente a las 12:43 a.m., la Oficina del Forense del Condado de Lake fue notificada y respondió al Centro Deportivo del Condado de Lake y al Centro Médico Vista Este, ambos en Waukegan, para una investigación de muerte.
“El 7 de octubre de 2019, a las 9:15 AM, se realizó una autopsia a la víctima, José Ochoa-Martínez, de 40 años, de Waukegan. Los resultados preliminares de la autopsia indican que murió por lesiones por fuerza contundente causadas por un vehículo de motor. Los resultados toxicológicos están pendientes. La investigación sobre su muerte continúa por nuestra oficina y el Departamento de Policía de Waukegan”, declaró el Dr. Howard Cooper, forense del Condado de Lake.
“Hemos estado en estrecho contacto con la familia del Sr. Ochoa-Martínez y hemos ofrecido nuestras más profundas condolencias durante este difícil momento. Esto es realmente una tragedia”, agregó.
Jose Ochoa dies after being run over
José Ochoa-Martínez dies, and four others were injured, when they were hit by the vehicle driven by Prisciliano Carranza, this after a brutal fight that sparked at the Lake County Sports Center facility in this city at the end of an indoor football game. Carranza managed to escape but was learned by Waukegan police and put behind bars on charges of first-degree murder and has a $5 million bond.
On October 4, 2019 at approximately 11:40pm, officers from the Waukegan Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a reported fight at the Lake County Sports Center parking lot, located in the 300 block of Oakwood. It was also reported that someone was struck by a vehicle. While en route officers were updated that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a black SUV.
Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims that had been struck by the suspect vehicle. Victim # 1 is currently being identified as a male in his 40’s. Victim 1 was transported to an area hospital where he passed from his injuries.
Victim 2 is a male in his late teens. Victim 3 is a male in his late teens. Victim 4 is a female that is 10. Victims 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all related. Victim 5 is a male in his 20’s. All the male victims were transported to area hospitals with moderate injuries and expected to recover. Victim 4 was not transported.
Based on the severity of the incident the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Traffic Division were called in to investigate. As the investigation was beginning, a patrol officer spotted a black SUV with front-end damage and conducted a traffic stop. The black SUV was occupied with three people.
Those three people were brought to the Waukegan Police Department. At the Waukegan Police Department the black SUV was identified as the suspect vehicle and one of the occupants was identified as the driver of the suspect vehicle, at the time of the incident. The black SUV is a 2010 GMC.
Investigators believe that an altercation occurred in the parking lot of the sports center as a soccer match was ending. The incident escalated with Prisciliano Carranza, 22 years old, of Waukegan driving the 2010 GMC into the listed victims. Carranza has been charged with First Degree Murder and was taken to bond court this morning.
Currently, Carranza is in the custody of the Lake County Illinois Jail on a $5 Million bond and will appear again in court on October 29, 2019.
Lake County Illinois Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper has scheduled an autopsy for October 7, 2019. Once the autopsy is complete and proper family notifications have been made, Dr. Cooper will release victim 1’s identity.

On October 5, 2019, at approximately 12:43 AM, the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the Lake County Sports Center and Vista Medical Center East, both in Waukegan, for a death investigation. “On October 7, 2019, at 9:15 AM, an autopsy was performed on the victim, 40-year-old Jose Ochoa-Martinez, of Waukegan. The preliminary autopsy results indicate he died of blunt force injuries caused by a motor vehicle. Toxicology results are pending. The investigation into his death continues by our office and the Waukegan Police Department,” stated Dr. Howard Cooper, Lake County Coroner. “We have been in close contact with Mr. Ochoa-Martinez’ family and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy,” he added.
