Lake County, IL. – Cada año, el 1 de diciembre, se conmemora el Día Mundial del SIDA. Este importante día de concientización es un momento para reflexionar y celebrar el progreso global en el camino hacia el VIH/SIDA, reconocer los desafíos pendientes y honrar las vidas perdidas. En este día, también renueva el compromiso de apoyar el bienestar de quienes tienen VIH, así como de quienes corren riesgo de infección. Únase a la Coalición del Condado de Lake Stands Against Stigma de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m. en el Distrito de Parques de Waukegan, 412 S. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan.
El evento es gratuito, abierto al público y contará con una ceremonia de encendido de velas, canciones interpretadas por Pascale M. Trouillot y acompañamiento de Ken McMullen; la actuación drag de Lola Madison y mucho más. Los asistentes aprenderán sobre la iniciativa Illinois Getting to Zero, cuyo objetivo es lograr cero nuevas infecciones por VIH en Illinois y cero personas que vivan con el VIH y no estén en tratamiento para 2030. Los asistentes también aprenderán cómo poner fin a la epidemia de VIH/SIDA con énfasis en Pruebas de VIH, aumentar el acceso a medicamentos de profilaxis previa a la exposición (PrEP) y resaltar la importancia de la supresión viral.
El tema del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos para el Día Mundial del SIDA 2023, Recuerde y Comprométase, rinde homenaje a las vidas perdidas a causa del VIH/SIDA. El tema también enfatiza la responsabilidad colectiva de mejorar el acceso a la atención. El programa de Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual (ITS) del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Lake, también conocido como Need2Know Lake County, trabaja con clientes y miembros de la comunidad en la prevención del VIH con servicios que incluyen pruebas de VIH, PrEP, tratamiento y atención.
Se anima a todos a asistir y usar una cinta roja para mostrar su apoyo y oponerse al estigma y la discriminación del VIH.

World AIDS Day event
Each year, on December 1st, we commemorate World AIDS Day. This important awareness day is a time to reflect on and celebrate the global progress in the HIV/AIDS journey, recognize the challenges remaining, and honor the lives lost. On this day, we also renew our commitment to supporting the well-being of those with HIV, as well as those at risk for infection. Join the Lake County Stands Against Stigma Coalition from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Waukegan Park District, 412 S. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan.
The event is free and open to the public and will feature a candle-lighting ceremony, songs performed by Pascale M. Trouillot and accompaniment by Ken McMullen, a drag performance by Lola Madison, and much more. Attendees will learn about the Illinois Getting to Zero initiative, which aims to see zero new HIV infections in Illinois and zero people living with HIV who are not on treatment by 2030. Attendees will also learn about ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic with an emphasis on HIV testing, increasing access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications, and highlighting the importance of viral suppression.
The U.S. Government (USG) theme for World AIDS Day 2023, Remember and Commit, pays tribute to the lives lost to HIV/AIDS. The theme also emphasizes the collective responsibility to improve access to care. The Lake County Health Department’s Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) program, also known as Need2Know Lake County, works with clients and community members on HIV prevention with services, including HIV testing, PrEP, treatment, and care.
All are encouraged to attend and wear a red ribbon to show their support and stand against HIV stigma and discrimination.
