Lake County, IL. – Anthony Vega prestó juramento como el decimosexto Secretario del Condado de Lake, el jueves 1 de diciembre de 2022. Vega no es nuevo en el servicio del condado de Lake, ya que anteriormente se desempeñó como jefe de personal del alguacil John D. Idleburg.
Vega es el primer miembro de la comunidad latina y LGBTQ+ en ser electo para un cargo en todo el condado y servir como secretario del condado de Lake.
“La importancia de mi juramento no se me escapa cuando asumo el cargo y me convierto en la primera persona LGBTQ en ocupar un cargo en todo el condado y el primer Secretario del Condado latino. Siempre he dicho que el gobierno funciona mejor cuando es un reflejo de nuestras diversas comunidades, pero aún queda mucho trabajo por hacer”, dijo el secretario del condado Vega.
Con miras a aumentar la presencia de la oficina en la comunidad, así como sus operaciones y eficiencia generales, Vega toma el mando de una oficina que se prepara para las Elecciones Consolidadas de 2023 a principios del próximo año. Después de su primer día, Vega declaró: “Estoy impresionado con la dedicación del personal a medida que pasamos de las elecciones generales de noviembre a la preparación para las elecciones primarias consolidadas y consolidadas en febrero y abril del próximo año, respectivamente”.
Además, Vega supervisará la integración de la Oficina del Registrador de Escrituras del Condado de Lake en la oficina del Secretario, que fue autorizada por los votantes en las Elecciones Generales de noviembre de 2020. Vega pasará parte de su tiempo durante los próximos meses reuniéndose con otros funcionarios municipales y del condado de Lake, organizaciones comunitarias y secretarios de otros condados para trazar estratégicamente un camino para garantizar que la oficina del secretario del condado de Lake esté “sirviendo a todos nuestros residentes en la manera más completa, eficiente y segura posible”.

Vega Sworn in as Lake County Clerk
Anthony Vega was sworn in as the sixteenth County Clerk for Lake County, Illinois on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Vega is not new to Lake County service, having previously served as the Chief of Staff for Sheriff John D. Idleburg.
Vega is the first member of the Latino and LGBTQ+ community to be elected to a countywide office and serve as the County Clerk in Lake County.
“The significance of my swearing-in is not lost on me as I take office as I become the first LGBTQ person to hold a countywide office and first Latino County Clerk. I have always said that government works best when it is a reflection of our diverse communities, but there’s still so much work to be done,” said County Clerk Vega.
With an eye towards increasing the office’s presence in the community, as well as its overall operations and efficiency, Vega takes command of an office gearing up for the 2023 Consolidated Elections early next year. After his first day, Vega stated, “I’m impressed with the dedication of the staff as we pivot from the November General Election to preparing for the Consolidated Primary and Consolidated Elections in February and April of next year, respectively.”
In addition, Vega will be overseeing the integration of the Lake County Recorder of Deeds Office into the Clerk’s office which was authorized by voters in the November 2020, General Election. Vega will be spending some of his time over the next few months meeting with other Lake County and municipal officials, community organizations, and clerks from other counties to strategically chart a path to ensure that the Lake County Clerk’s office is “serving all our residents in the most comprehensive, efficient, and secure manner possible.”
