Zion, IL. – Secretary of State Jesse White is endorsing current Zion City Commissioner Billy McKinney to be the next mayor of Zion.
“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of Jesse White,” McKinney said. “Jesse is a true public servant, and I have always admired the charitable work he has done over the years and I have tried to emulate his generosity and involvement in community projects. A big reason I am running for office is because of people like Jesse White. It means a great deal to me to have his support.”
McKinney is a Zion City Commissioner. He attended Zion-Benton High School and played basketball for the Zee-Bees under the tutelage of Coach Mo Tharp. He attended Northwestern University and earned a degree in education. His 7-year NBA career included stints with the Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz. He then spent 32 years working as an executive for NBA teams. Since returning home to Zion in 2008, Billy has volunteered his time and resources to countless organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Boy Scouts of America.
“Zion is and always has been home,” McKinney said. “I am running for mayor because I believe I can help bring jobs and opportunities to this community and I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me over the years. I will be the kind of full-time mayor this community needs and deserves.”
