Oficiales del Sheriff del Condado de Lake socorren oportunamente a persona bipolar.

Beach Park, IL – Agentes del Sheriff del Condado de Lake respondieron a una residencia en la cuadra 38700 de North Sheridan Road en esta ciudad, para ayudar a los paramédicos con un hombre de unos 20 años, que tenía un episodio bipolar en estado suicida. Inicialmente, el hombre habló con los paramédicos, pero una vez que supo que podría necesitar ir al hospital, huyó de los paramédicos.
El hombre corrió hacia Sheridan Road, diciendo cosas como: “Solo atropéllame y mátame”. El hombre intentó correr directamente en el camino de los vehículos en movimiento, en un intento de ser atropellado por un vehículo. Los agentes entraron rápidamente, arriesgándose a ser atropellados por un automóvil, y escoltaron con éxito al hombre fuera de la carretera.
Los miembros del Equipo de Apoyo y Alcance de Crisis (COaST, por sus siglas en inglés) respondieron para brindar apoyo adicional. El hombre resultó ileso y posteriormente fue transportado a un hospital del área para una evaluación de bienestar mental.
El alguacil John D. Idleburg dijo: “Las fuerzas del orden de todo el país han visto un tremendo aumento a lo largo de los años en la cantidad de llamadas relacionadas con personas con problemas mentales. Los ayudantes de nuestra oficina siempre abordan estas situaciones con una conducta tranquila y utilizan técnicas de reducción de escala. Estoy muy orgulloso de los diputados Rob Nakanishi, Amanda Hurtado y Leo Juarez por su rapidez de pensamiento, que salvó la vida de este hombre. Nuestro innovador equipo COaST también pudo responder para brindar apoyo adicional a este hombre en crisis mental”.
Sheriff’s Deputies Save Life of Suicidal Man
On March 27, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the 38700 block of North Sheridan Road, Beach Park, to assist paramedics with someone, a man in his 20’s, having a bipolar episode, in a suicidal state. Initially, the man spoke with paramedics, but once he learned he might need to go to the hospital, he ran from the paramedics.
The man ran toward Sheridan Road, saying things such as “Just run me over and kill me.” The man tried running directly in the path of moving vehicles, in an attempt to be struck by a vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies quickly rushed in, risking themselves getting struck by a car, and successfully escorted the man off the roadway.
Members of the Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COaST) responded to provide additional support. The man was unharmed and subsequently transported to an area hospital for a mental wellness evaluation.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Law enforcement from across the nation have seen a tremendous increase over the years in the amount of calls regarding individuals in mental distress. Our sheriff’s deputies always approach these situations with a calm demeanor and utilize de-escalation techniques. I am very proud of Deputies Rob Nakanishi, Amanda Hurtado, and Leo Juarez for their quick thinking, which saved this man’s life. Our innovative COaST team was also able to respond to provide additional support for this man in mental crisis.”
