Hoy, 5 de julio de 2022, la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado del Condado de Lake presentó siete cargos de asesinato en primer grado contra Robert E. Crimo III, de 21 años, por su ataque premeditado y calculado en el desfile de Highland Park ayer. Este es solo el primero de muchos cargos que nuestra oficina presentará contra Crimo por la devastadora ola de asesinatos que desató contra nuestra comunidad.
Crimo fue arrestado el lunes por la noche en Lake Forest por el Departamento de Policía de North Chicago después de una breve persecución y permanece bajo custodia. Está programado para comparecer ante el tribunal de fianzas mañana por la mañana, 6 de julio de 2022.
“Nuestros corazones están con las siete familias que perdieron a sus seres queridos ayer. Docenas de personas ya se han ofrecido como voluntarios para apoyar a estas familias, y sé que el alcalde Rotering, el jefe Jogmen, el condado de Lake y nuestros socios federales ya han comenzado el trabajo crítico de apoyar a estas familias que más lo necesitan en este momento. Nuestra oficina también trajo consejeros a Highland Park hoy para ayudar de cualquier manera posible”, dijo el fiscal estatal Eric Rinehart.
Aproximadamente dos docenas más resultaron heridas en los disparos y han sido transportadas a hospitales del área.
“Nuestras oraciones más urgentes están con aquellos que resultaron heridos y permanecen en el hospital. Sabemos que están recibiendo la mejor atención médica posible en circunstancias difíciles”, dijo el Sr. Rinehart.
La Oficina del Fiscal del Estado agradece a los valientes agentes del orden público que estaban allí cuando se dispararon los primeros disparos y a las numerosas otras agencias del orden público de todo el condado de Lake y el estado que respondieron para ayudar. Las agencias federales, incluidos el FBI, la ATF y la Oficina del Fiscal Federal, han sido socios fundamentales en la investigación.
El fiscal estatal Rinehart declaró: “La policía no solo corrió hacia los disparos, ayudó a los heridos y consoló a las familias después de noticias desgarradoras, sino que también trabajó incansablemente durante el día y la noche para investigar y resolver el caso. En cuestión de horas, pudieron identificar y detener al sospechoso”.
Tragedias como estas nos recuerdan por qué es importante tener leyes de armas sensatas y evitar que personas como Crimo tengan acceso a armas de fuego. Si tiene un familiar o amigo que está perdiendo el control hacia la violencia, debe decírselo a alguien.
La investigación, que está siendo dirigida por la Fuerza Especial Mayor del Condado de Lake, la Policía de Highland Park y el FBI, continúa. Cualquier persona que tenga información o que tenga imágenes de video debe comunicarse con la línea de información del FBI al 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Murder Charges Brought Against Man Who Shot and Killed Seven, and Injured Many More
Today, July 5, 2022, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed seven first-degree murder charges against 21-year-old, Robert E. Crimo III, for his pre-mediated and calculated attack at the Highland Park Parade yesterday. This is just the first of many charges our office will file against Crimo for the devastating killing spree he unleashed against our community.
Crimo was arrested Monday evening, in Lake Forest by the North Chicago Police Department after a brief chase and remains in custody. He is set to appear in bond court tomorrow morning, July 6, 2022.
“Our hearts go out to the seven families who lost loved ones yesterday. Dozens of people have already volunteered to support these families, and I know that Mayor Rotering, Chief Jogmen, Lake County, and our federal partners have already started the critical work of supporting these families who are most in need right now. Our office has also brought counselors to Highland Park today to assist in any way possible,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said.
Approximately two dozen others were injured in the gunfire and have been transported to area hospitals.
“Our most urgent prayers go out to those who were injured and remain in the hospital. We know they are receiving the best medical care possible under difficult circumstances,” Mr. Rinehart said.
The State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful to the courageous law enforcement officers who were there when gun shots were first fired and the numerous other law enforcement agencies from around Lake County and the State that responded to assist. Federal agencies including the FBI and ATF and US Attorney’s Office have been critical partners in the investigation.
State’s Attorney Rinehart stated, “Not only did police run towards the gunshots, help the wounded, and comfort families after heartbreaking news, but they also worked tirelessly throughout the day and into the night to investigate and solve the case. In just a matter of hours, they were able to identify and apprehend the suspect.”
Tragedies like these remind us why it’s important to have sensible gun laws and prevent people like Crimo from having access to firearms. If you have a family member or friend who is spiraling out control towards violence, you must tell someone.
The investigation, which is being led by the Lake County Major Task Force, Highland Park Police, and FBI, continues. Anyone with information or those who have video footage should contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
