Highland Park, IL. – Fue detenido el presunto tirador del desfile de independencia en esta ciudad donde 6 personas perdieron la vida y más de 20 resultaron heridas en un tiroteo que se dio al iniciar el tradicional desfile del 4 de julio.
Aproximadamente a las 6:30 p. m. del lunes 4 de julio, el Departamento de Policía de North Chicago identificó un Honda Fit con una matrícula que coincidía con el vehículo sospechoso, que viajaba hacia el sur por la carretera 41 y Buckley Road en North Chicago.
El oficial intentó detener el auto y se produjo una breve persecución. En coordinación con otras fuerzas del orden del área, el vehículo sospechoso fue detenido en la carretera 41 y Westleigh Road en Lake Forest. La persona buscada, Robert (Bobby) E. Crimo III, fue detenido sin incidentes.
Crimo ha sido transportado al Departamento de Policía de Highland Park. A pesar de tener un sospechoso bajo custodia, el caso sigue siendo una investigación activa. Mientras, el FBI y la Unidad de Delitos Mayores del Condado de Lake continúan en el sitio para la investigación de la escena del crimen, se mantendrá un perímetro alrededor de partes del Distrito Comercial Central y hay desviaciones en su lugar.
El área de cierre actualizada incluye: Central Avenue desde Green Bay Road hasta St. Johns, First Street desde Laurel Avenue hasta Elm Place y Second Street desde Laurel Avenue hasta la entrada sur del estacionamiento público de South Street. El Departamento de Policía solicita que el público continúe enviando sugerencias y/o fotos/videos que puedan ser relevantes para la investigación para su procesamiento.
Las personas que aún necesitan reunirse con sus seres queridos de los que fueron separados durante el transcurso de los eventos de hoy deben dirigirse al Departamento de Policía de Highland Park en 1677 Old Deerfield Rd, Highland Park.
Person of interest taken into custody
At approximately 6:30PM on Monday, July 4, the North Chicago Police Department identified a Honda Fit with a license plate matching the suspect vehicle, traveling Southbound on IL Route 41 and Buckley in North Chicago. The Officer attempted a traffic stop; a brief pursuit ensued.
In coordination with other area law enforcement, the suspect vehicle was stopped at IL Route 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest. The person of interest, Robert (Bobby) E. Crimo III was taken into custody without incident.
Crimo has been transported to Highland Park Police Department. Despite having a suspect in custody; this remains an active investigation. As the FBI and Lake County Major Crimes Unit continue to remain on site for the crime scene investigation, a perimeter will be maintained around portions of the Central Business District; detours are in place.
The updated closure area includes: Central Avenue from Green Bay Road to St Johns, First Street from Laurel Avenue to Elm Place, and Second Street from Laurel Avenue to the southern entrance of the South Street public parking lot.
The Police Department requests that the public continue to send in any tips and/or photos/videos that may be relevant to the investigation for processing.
Individuals still needing to be reunited with loved ones they were separated from during the course of today’s events should go to the Highland Park Police Department at 1677 Old Deerfield Rd, Highland Park.
