Zion, IL. – El martes 31 de enero a las 21:16, se realizaron una gran cantidad de llamadas al 911 a la Policía de Zion. El departamento informa sobre disparos fuera de la escuela secundaria del municipio de Zion Benton, 3901 W 21st St, durante un partido de baloncesto contra la escuela secundaria de Waukegan. El personal de la policía comenzó a llegar en menos de dos minutos y entrevistó a testigos que informaron que un “hombre negro vestido completamente de negro” disparó un arma de fuego varias veces antes de huir en un vehículo plateado.
Dos vehículos estacionados en la ZBTHS fueron alcanzados por disparos. Nadie resultó herido por los disparos, sin embargo, se le pidió al Departamento de Bomberos de Zion que evaluara a una persona que resultó herida mientras otros asistentes la pisoteaban inadvertidamente cuando huían de la propiedad.
El Departamento de Policía de Winthrop Harbor y la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake contribuyeron con personal policial para ayudar a garantizar la seguridad de los asistentes restantes y la estabilidad del área mientras el Departamento de Policía de Zion investigaba.

Gunfire outside of the Zion Benton High
On Tuesday, January 31 at 09:16 pm, an abundance of 911 calls were placed to the Zion Police. Department reporting gunfire outside of the Zion Benton Township High School, 3901 W 21st St, during a basketball game against the Waukegan High School. Zion Police Department personnel began arriving in less than two minutes and interviewed witnesses who reported that a “Black male wearing all black”, discharged a firearm numerous times before fleeing in a silver vehicle.
Two vehicles parked at the ZBTHS were struck by gunfire. No one was injured by gunfire, however, the Zion Fire Department was asked to evaluate a person that was injured while being inadvertently trampled by other attendees fleeing the property.
The Winthrop Harbor Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office contributed law enforcement personnel to help ensure the safety of the remaining attendees and the stability of the area while the Zion Police Department investigated.
The Zion Police Department is investigating several leads about this incident.
