Detectives del sheriff del condado de Lake arrestaron Steven Crdenas por posesión de numerosos videos de pornografía infantil.

North Chicago, IL. – A principios de este año, detectives del sheriff se presentaron en el domicilio de Steven Cardenas, de 26 años, residente de la cuadra 1100 de Broadway Avenue, North Chicago, tras recibir información de que posiblemente estaba descargando material de abuso sexual infantil.
En ese momento, los detectives no contaban con la causa probable suficiente para obtener una orden de registro. Cuando los detectives intentaron hablar con Cardenas en su domicilio, este se negó a cooperar y les indicó que regresaran con la orden.
Durante los meses siguientes, los detectives del sheriff continuaron la investigación, obteniendo citaciones y órdenes de registro adicionales que finalmente proporcionaron la causa probable suficiente para obtener una orden de registro para la residencia de Cardenas.
El 2 de julio de 2026, miembros del Grupo de Trabajo contra los Delitos Cibernéticos contra Menores del Sheriff, el equipo SWAT del Sheriff y la Fiscalía General de Illinois ejecutaron la orden de registro.
Al llegar, la madre de Cárdenas, Jackeline Cárdenas, de 56 años, quien también reside en la vivienda, se negó repetidamente a abrir la puerta a pesar de haber sido informada de que los agentes contaban con una orden de registro válida, y en lugar de eso, se burló de ellos. Tras revisar los hechos y las circunstancias de la investigación, la Fiscalía del Condado de Lake aprobó 10 cargos de Posesión de Pornografía Infantil (Delitos Graves de Clase 2) contra Steven Cárdenas.
El sheriff John D. Idleburg declaró: “Esta investigación es otro ejemplo de nuestro firme compromiso de identificar y arrestar a quienes se aprovechan de los miembros más vulnerables de nuestra comunidad. Aunque la investigación parecía estancarse a principios de este año, los detectives del sheriff perseveraron en sus esfuerzos, logrando finalmente reunir pruebas suficientes para obtener una orden de registro. Su persistencia condujo al arresto de un hombre que poseía más de 1000 videos de material de abuso sexual infantil”.
Steven comparecerá ante el tribunal. La Fiscalía del Condado de Lake tiene previsto presentar una petición para que permanezca bajo custodia en espera de juicio.
Jackeline fue multada en el lugar de los hechos por un cargo de obstrucción a la justicia.

Investigation Leads to Arrest
Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a North Chicago man for possessing numerous videos of child pornography involving young children, following a diligent investigation.
Earlier this year, sheriff’s detectives went to the home of Steven Cardenas, 26, of the 1100 block of Broadway Avenue, North Chicago, after receiving information he was possibly downloading child sexual abuse material. At that time, detectives had not developed sufficient probable cause to obtain a search warrant. When detectives attempted to speak with Cardenas at his home, he refused to cooperate and told detectives to return with a warrant.
Sheriff’s detectives continued their investigation over the following months, obtaining subpoenas and additional search warrants that ultimately provided sufficient probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Cardenas’ residence.
On July 2, 2026, members of the Sheriff’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Sheriff’s SWAT, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office executed the search warrant. Upon arriving, Cardenas’ mother, Jackeline Cardenas, 56, who also resides at the home, refused repeated instructions to open the door despite being advised deputies possessed a valid search warrant, and instead laughed at them. Members of Sheriff’s SWAT then breached the door and safely entered the residence.
Investigators seized electronic devices belonging to Steven Cardenas. A forensic examination conducted by members of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office revealed more than 1,000 videos containing child sexual abuse material.
After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography (Class 2 Felonies) against Steven Cardenas.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “This investigation is another example of our unwavering commitment to identifying and arresting those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our community. Although the investigation appeared to reach a dead end earlier this year, sheriff’s detectives remained relentless in their efforts, ultimately developing enough evidence to obtain a search warrant. Their persistence led to the arrest of a man found to be in possession of more than 1,000 videos of child sexual abuse material.”
Steven is due in court. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to detain him in custody while awaiting trial.
Jackeline was cited at the scene with one count of obstructing a peace officer.
