Lake County, IL. – The Lakes Region Sanitary District and the Lake County Board are excited to announce that they are very close to entering into an Intergovernmental Agreement that will consolidate sanitary sewer services. Property owners and customers of the Lakes Region Sanitary District will see real savings once this is fully implemented.
Consolidating District operations and allowing Lake County to assume all future operational services will create an environment for streamlining resources and eventual elimination of the District Tax levy. All operations, maintenance, and customer service will be handled by Lake County Public Works.
“This is a great example of how we are working with our partners to consolidate where it makes sense so that we can deliver the most efficient services and reduce costs for Lake County families, businesses and taxpayers,” said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. “The consolidation is estimated to save taxpayers in this district approximately $1.25 million annually, once fully implemented.”
The District collects and transmits wastewater for more than 5,500 customers in the northwestern part of Lake County. The service area partially overlaps small areas of Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Volo, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach and unincorporated areas adjacent to those communities. Funding for the District comes from a combination of property taxes (on 11,000 properties), connection and permit fees, and user charges.
“Customers service is our top priority,” said J. Kevin Hunter, President of the Lakes Region Sanitary Board. “This consolidation will not only help save money for our customers, but it will also provide them with the same level of great service our customers are used to receiving.”
Operational and maintenance services are anticipated to be ready by May 1, 2019, and customer service will transition over to Lake County Public Works by June 3, 2019, pending mutual agreement by both Boards. Final closeout of the district will take a few years and will be completed once the full debt service is paid.
District and County employees are working together to ensure customers do not experience any reduction or interruption of service. Additional information will be made available as this consolidation process moves forward.
