Waukegan, IL. – La Ciudad de Waukegan a través del Departamento de Ingeniería, que encabeza Jesús Alquicira, llevarán a cabo el proyecto de reemplazo de tuberías de plomo y material galvanizado por tuberías de cobre.
Esto con el fin de cumplir con nuevas leyes federal y estatal que obliga a los gobiernos municipales a mejorar las antiguas líneas de agua potable por un material que evite los riesgos de enfermedades como defectos de nacimientos entre otros.
“El proyecto iniciará con una encuesta para saber qué viviendas en Waukegan tienen este tipo de tuberías (plomo y galvanizado) que llegan de la toma de la calle al medidor de la casa.
Para ello, se utilizará un código QR al que le pueden tomar foto y los envía a la encuesta para que llenen su información, incluso, se pide que tomen fotos a la tubería que hay en su casa para determinar el posible reemplazo”, dijo Jesús Alquicira.
Enfatizó que el agua en Waukegan cuenta con altas normas de salud para ser utilizada por los residentes, pero con las nuevas leyes, el proyecto de reemplazo de tuberías en esta ciudad se realizará en aquellas viviendas que fueron construidas antes de 1986.
Con la encuesta, recalca el funcionario, se ayuda al municipio a obtener un inventario, contactar a las personas y trabajar por áreas, ya que se pretende iniciar a corto plazo con 400 viviendas para este 2023, y donde el usuario no tendrá que pagar por este servicio.
“Las leyes exigen a los municipios iniciar en el 2027, pero las instrucciones de nuestra alcaldesa Ann Taylor son de iniciar en este año y lo más pronto posible, por eso la encuesta para detectar tuberías de plomo y galvanizado se enviarán a 18 mil residencias y negocios”, indicó Alquicira.
Por su parte, Diane Moeller, Ingeniera de Proyectos de la empresa Robinson Engineering, dijo que: “Estoy trabajando con la ciudad de Waukegan para desarrollar un inventario de materiales de la línea de servicio de agua. Estamos trabajando en un gran esfuerzo para enviar una encuesta por correo a aproximadamente 18 mil residencias y negocios para determinar el material de la línea de servicio que abastece de agua potable a una residencia. Luego, la ciudad utilizará esta información para desarrollar un programa de reemplazo de líneas de servicio de plomo”.
Se recomienda a los usuarios de Waukegan llenar la encuesta lo antes posible para iniciar con el proceso, utilizando el código QR que aparece en el anuncio en la parte de abajo de esta página.

Water pipes to be replaced in Waukegan

The City will then use this information to develop a lead service line replacement program.”
