Waukegan, IL. – La representante estatal Rita Mayfield, demócrata de Waukegan, continuará desempeñando un papel de liderazgo en la facilitación de los esfuerzos de seguridad pública en todo Illinois después de haber sido reelegida para dirigir el Comité de Asignaciones y Seguridad Pública en la Cámara de Representantes de Illinois para la Asamblea General 103 recién iniciada.
“Me complace tener la oportunidad de continuar el importante trabajo en el que me he involucrado durante los próximos dos años”, dijo Mayfield. “Durante la última Asamblea General, pudimos hacer avanzar a Illinois con varios logros significativos que incluyen más fondos para la aplicación de la ley, programas mejorados para abordar el robo en tiendas minoristas, el robo de automóviles, los delitos con armas de fuego y más. Sin embargo, queda más trabajo por hacer y la próxima sesión es el momento de hacerlo”.
La 103 Asamblea General comenzó el 11 de enero y continuará hasta enero de 2025. Mayfield también fue presidenta del mismo comité durante la 102 Asamblea General, que finalizó recientemente, donde mantuvo un historial constante de trabajo legislativo centrado en la equidad, incluidos sus esfuerzos para ayudar a aprobar con éxito la histórica Ley SAFE-T.
“El trabajo de este comité se encuentra en la intersección de dos de los aspectos más importantes del servicio público: mantener la seguridad del público y garantizar la administración responsable de los dólares de los contribuyentes”, dijo Mayfield. “Estas son áreas de responsabilidad que me tomo muy en serio, y estoy emocionada una vez más de asumir el desafío de garantizar que se sigan abordando de manera equilibrada”.

Rep. Mayfield Reappointed Chairperson
State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, will continue to take a leading role in facilitating public safety efforts across Illinois after being reappointed to lead the Appropriations-Public Safety Committee in the Illinois House of Representatives for the newly-begun 103rd General Assembly.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue the important work in which I have been engaged during the next two years,” Mayfield said. “During the last General Assembly, we were able to move Illinois forward with several significant achievements including more funding for law enforcement, enhanced programs to address retail theft, car theft, gun crime and more. However, more work remains to be done and the coming session is the time to do it.”
The 103rd General Assembly began on Jan. 11 and will continue until January 2025. Mayfield was also the chairperson of the same committee during the recently-ended 102nd General Assembly, where she maintained a consistent record of no-nonsense, equity-focused legislative work, including her efforts to help successfully pass the historic SAFE-T Act.
“This committee’s work is at the intersection of two of the most important aspects of public service—keeping the public safe and ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” Mayfield said. “These are both areas of responsibility that I take very seriously, and I am excited once again to take on the challenge of ensuring they continue to be addressed in a balanced way.”
