Waukegan, IL. – The Waukegan Park District Board of Directors released $5,000 from the Waukegan Park District Memorial endowment fund to increase access to education for future leaders in the community. The endowment comes from funds that have been received as private donations and gifts to the District. Five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to District residents who will be attending college or trade school in Fall 2019.
23 applicants
The search committee members stated “This has been an uplifting experience for us. We had 23 applicants for the scholarship and met many community leaders. We feel very confident that the future of our community is in good hands. While there were many great candidates, these five young leaders rose to the top and embody the mission and vision of the District.”
The candidates have led environmental efforts in Waukegan and abroad, provided service to immigrants, veterans, and those in need.
