Waukegan High School’s JROTC program will host its annual Valentine’s Day Cards for Veterans event this month in support of local veterans. Similar to last year, cadets will collect Valentine’s cards to donate to the Midwest Veteran’s Closet in North Chicago, which will then distribute the cards to various local veteran associations and organizations.
This year the JROTC is making it easy for participants to submit physical cards or virtual cards.
Those wishing to submit physical cards will have the opportunity to pick up craft materials needed to make ten cards during two days of supply pick-up events at both Thomas Jefferson and Miguel Juarez middle schools. These events will take place Wednesday, February 3, and Thursday, February 4, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at both schools.
To be eligible to pick up supplies, at the no-contact event parents must first reserve a pickup time here. Parents will be asked to remain in their cars once they’ve arrived at Juarez or Jefferson. Staff will be present outside both buildings to place supply kits in the trunks of cars. Families can then drop off their finished designs on February 8 or February 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in special boxes, which will be set up outside the main entrances of both Jefferson and Juarez.
Families will also have the opportunity to design cards virtually through Google Slides. Completed designs can be submitted to WHSV4V@gmail.com, and will be printed by the District’s print shop to be donated.
To assist families in the creation of virtual cards, our District will be hosting a live tutorial event on our District’s Facebook page on February 4 at 5:30 p.m. Anyone with further questions may contact Carolina Fabian at cfabian@wps60.org.
