Waukegan, IL. – Clearview Elementary School was recently recognized as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Gold Level School by the Midwest PBIS Network.
Clearview was one of 400 schools across Illinois recognized in one of four categories based upon its implementation of PBIS and outcome data during the 2018-2019 school year. PBIS is a way for schools to encourage positive behavior. It provides students with an opportunity to learn about behavior, just as they learn other subjects like math and literacy.
Gold Level schools are recognized as those that provide tiered support and interventions to all students, have low accounts of office discipline referrals and out of school suspensions, and have shown improved/sustained academic outcomes over the past 3 school years.
During the 2018/2019 school year Clearview’s PBIS team worked with teachers, students and families to host school-wide events, provide explicit instruction and encouragement of positive behavior and how to SOAR as a Clearview Hawk, participated in professional development on social/emotional learning, and recognized students for meeting Clearview’s behavior and attendance expectations.
