Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60, recently celebrated the winners of its Henry Levy Fine Arts Achievement Award and the winners of the annual Young Composers contest.
The Henry Levy Fine Arts Achievement Award is annually given to one high-achieving Fine Arts student in elementary school, middle school and high school. Levy winners are recognized for outstanding achievement in multiple areas of the Fine Arts (art, music, dance, drama, and creative writing) both in school and with community organizations.
This year’s winners were Helena Secrest, a 5th grader at Cooke Magnet School; Guadalupe Vazquez an 8th grader at Jefferson Middle School; and WHS senior, Cymia James.
The Dr. Henry Levy Fine Arts Award is named after Dr. Henry Levy, a former Music Coordinator for Waukegan Public Schools, who passed away in 2013. The awards are given annually during the Young Composers’ Contest.
