Zion, IL. – Detectives de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake arrestaron a una mujer de Zion por posesión de material de abuso sexual infantil (CSAM, por sus siglas en inglés).
Detectives de la unidad de delitos cibernéticos de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake iniciaron una investigación tras tener conocimiento de que se estaban compartiendo imágenes y videos de abuso sexual infantil, que involucraban a menores de 13 años, desde un dispositivo electrónico en Zion. Los detectives determinaron que el dispositivo se encontraba en una vivienda situada en la cuadra 1700 de la avenida Joppa, en Zion.
Durante la investigación, los detectives obtuvieron una orden de registro para la residencia. Llevaron a cabo dicha orden con la participación de detectives de la Oficina del Sheriff, el perro detector de dispositivos electrónicos Enzo (de la Oficina del Sheriff), el perro detector de dispositivos electrónicos Grip (de la Fiscalía Estatal) y personal de la Oficina del Fiscal General de Illinois.
Los detectives incautaron dispositivos electrónicos pertenecientes a Rebekah Denise Smith, de 25 años y residente en el mismo domicilio, los cuales contenían material de abuso sexual infantil.
La Fiscalía Estatal del Condado de Lake autorizó la presentación de dos cargos por posesión de pornografía infantil (delitos graves de Clase 2).
El sheriff John D. Idleburg declaró: “No existe mayor prioridad que proteger a los niños de quienes buscan explotarlos. Me siento increíblemente orgulloso de la labor de nuestro equipo especializado en delitos contra niños en Internet y de sus continuos esfuerzos para identificar y detener a individuos que creen poder utilizar la red para victimizar a menores. Seguiremos destinando los recursos necesarios para localizar a estos delincuentes y llevarlos ante la justicia”.
Se presume la inocencia de todos los acusados hasta que se demuestre su culpabilidad ante un tribunal.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a Zion woman for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Lake County Sheriff’s Cybercrime Detectives initiated an investigation after they became aware images and videos of CSAM, involving children under the age of 13, were being shared from an electronic device in Zion. Detectives learned the device was located at a home in the 1700 block of Joppa Avenue, Zion.
During their investigation, sheriff’s detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. Sheriff’s detectives, along with Electronic Detection Canine Enzo, State’s Attorney Electronic Detection Canine Grip, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, conducted the search warrant.
Sheriff’s detectives seized electronics belonging to Rebekah Denise Smith, 25, of the same address, which contained CSAM.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two counts of Possession of Child Pornography (Class 2 Felonies).
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “There is no higher priority than protecting children from those who seek to exploit them. I am incredibly proud of the work of our Internet Crimes Against Children Team and their continued efforts to identify and apprehend individuals who believe they can use the internet to prey upon children. We will continue to dedicate the resources necessary to find these offenders and bring them to justice.”
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
