Waukegan cuenta con jóvenes líderes que se dedican a su educación con el fin de generar un impacto en la comunidad.

Waukegan, IL. – El Distrito de Parques de Waukegan otorgó una beca de $1,000 a cada uno de cinco estudiantes locales que se destacaron académicamente y demostraron un compromiso con el servicio a su comunidad; estas becas se conocen como la Beca del Fondo de Dotación Conmemorativo del Distrito de Parques de Waukegan. Los beneficiarios de la beca para el año 2026 son: Ava Dupuy, Carter Newsome, Jamil Chuc, Trayvon Burnett e Yvelise Soto-Pérez.
Con el mayor número de solicitantes en la historia de la beca, los beneficiarios pasaron por un riguroso proceso de revisión de solicitudes y deben cumplir con los requisitos de ser residentes del Distrito de Parques de Waukegan, estar inscritos para el otoño en un colegio comunitario, universidad o escuela de oficios, y cursar una carrera relacionada con el ámbito de parques y recreación.
Los beneficiarios de la beca para el año 2026 asistirán a los siguientes colegios y universidades:

  • Ava Dupuy, University of North Carolina – Charlotte
  • Carter Newsome, McHenry County College
  • Jamil Chuc, University of Michigan
  • Trayvon Burnett, Western Michigan University
  • Yvelise Soto-Pérez, Carthage College

Anteriores beneficiarios de la Beca del Fondo de Dotación Conmemorativo del Distrito de Parques de Waukegan asistieron o asisten actualmente a las siguientes instituciones educativas: Butler University, Case Western Reserve University, Clark University, College of Lake County, Connecticut College, Cornell College, Carthage College, DePaul University, Duke University, Hope College, Howard University, Knox College, Lake Forest College, North Carolina Central University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt College, Rosalind Franklin University, Smith College, Texas Southern University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Richmond, University of Rochester, University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign, University of North Carolina – Charlotte, University of Wisconsin – Parkside y Western Michigan University.
Jacqueline Herrera-Giron, presidenta de la Junta de Comisionados del Distrito de Parques de Waukegan, declaró: “El Distrito de Parques de Waukegan está comprometido a apoyar los objetivos de nuestra juventud, quienes persiguen sus sueños educativos. Aplaudimos sus esfuerzos y estamos ansiosos por verlos triunfar. Sabemos que estas becas representan una inversión en los líderes del mañana”.

Scholarships to Local Students
Waukegan has young leaders that are pursuing their education to make an impact in the community. The Waukegan Park District awarded five local students who excelled academically and demonstrated a commitment to serving their community with a $1,000 scholarship each, known as the Waukegan Park District Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarship. The 2026 scholarship recipients are: Ava Dupuy, Carter Newsome, Jamil Chuc, Trayvon Burnett, and Yvelise Soto-Perez.
With the highest number of applicants in the scholarship’s history, scholarship recipients went through a rigorous application review process and are required to be a resident of the Waukegan Park District, a student enrolled at a college, university, or trade school in the fall, and pursuing a field related to parks and recreation.
The 2026 scholarship recipients will be attending the following colleges and universities:

  • Ava Dupuy, University of North Carolina – Charlotte
  • Carter Newsome, McHenry County College
  • Jamil Chuc, University of Michigan
  • Trayvon Burnett, Western Michigan University
  • Yvelise Soto-Perez, Carthage Collage
    Past recipients of the Waukegan Park District Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarship attended or currently attend the following schools: Butler University, Case Western Reserve University, Clark University, College, College of Lake County, Connecticut College, Cornell College, Carthage College, DePaul University, Duke University, Hope College, Howard University, Knox College, Lake Forest College, North Carolina Central University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt College, Rosalind Franklin University, Smith College, Texas Southern University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Richmond, University of Rochester, University of Illinois – Urbana Champagne, University of North Carolina – Charlotte, University of Wisconsin – Parkside and Western Michigan University.
    Jacqueline Herrera-Giron, President of the Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners, stated “The Waukegan Park District is committed to supporting the goals of our youth who are pursuing their educational dreams. We applaud their efforts and can’t wait to see them succeed. We know that these scholarships are an investment in tomorrow’s leaders.”
