North Chicago, IL. – El domingo 21 de septiembre de 2025, aproximadamente a las 12:05 p.m., los Departamentos de Policía y Bomberos de North Chicago acudieron a la cuadra 2900 de Martin Luther King Jr. Drive tras recibir el reporte de un accidente vehicular con heridos. Oficiales y bomberos llegaron y encontraron un choque entre dos vehículos, ambos con daños graves y uno en llamas. Ambos vehículos estaban ocupados únicamente por sus conductores. El conductor del vehículo incendiado fue declarado muerto en el lugar.
Debido a la gravedad del accidente, el Equipo de Asistencia para Accidentes Graves (MCAT, por sus siglas en inglés) del Condado de Lake acudió para colaborar en la investigación.
Se notificó a la Oficina del Forense del Condado de Lake, quien acudió al lugar.
El lunes 22 de septiembre de 2025, se realizó una autopsia en la Oficina del Forense del Condado de Lake. Los resultados preliminares de la autopsia indican que la víctima falleció por lesiones contundentes como consecuencia del accidente. Las pruebas toxicológicas, incluida la de monóxido de carbono, están pendientes. La identificación del fallecido está pendiente de la conclusión de estudios científicos adicionales. El accidente continúa bajo investigación por parte del Departamento de Policía de North Chicago y el MCAT.
Victim died from blunt force injuries
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at approximately 12:05 p.m., the North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded to the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers and firefighters arrived to find a two-vehicle crash with both vehicles having heavy damage and one of the vehicles on fire. Both vehicles were only occupied by their drivers. The driver inside the car that caught fire was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on the seriousness of the crash, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to assist in the investigation.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
On Monday, September 22, 2025, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the victim died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash. Toxicology testing, including carbon monoxide testing, is pending. Positive identification of the deceased is awaiting conclusion of further scientific studies.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department and MCAT.
