On Saturday, August 9, 2025, at approximately 4:37 p.m., the Hawthorn Woods Police Department and the Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to North Fairfield Road and Holmes Avenue, in Hawthorn Woods for a serious injury two-vehicle traffic crash. Officers arrived and found two vehicles, a 2007 Honda Accord and a 2014 Honda CR-V, both with heavy damage. Based on the seriousness of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was called to assist with the investigation.
Preliminary investigation shows that the 2014 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on North Fairfield Road, when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a 2007 Honda Accord, which was traveling northbound on North Fairfield Road. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals. A passenger in the Honda Accord, a 28-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old AnnMarie Macias-Lauritzen, of Round Lake Beach. On Monday, August 11, 2025, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Ms. Macias-Lauritzen died from blunt force injuries of the head and neck as a result of the crash.
