Gurnee, IL. – Investigadores de accidentes del sheriff del condado de Lake trabajan en un grave accidente de tráfico de un solo vehículo ocurrido durante la noche.
El 8 de marzo de 2025, aproximadamente a las 2:05 a.m., agentes del sheriff respondieron al área de Stearns School Road y Mill Creek Drive, en Gurnee, por un accidente de tráfico, donde alguien quedó atrapado en el vehículo. Los agentes del sheriff llegaron y encontraron un sedán Mercedes-Benz con graves daños.
La investigación preliminar muestra que el conductor, un hombre de 26 años de Gurnee, viajaba hacia el este por Stearns School Road, acercándose a Mill Creek Drive. Por una razón desconocida, el hombre se salió del lado sur de la carretera y chocó contra un árbol. El lado del conductor del vehículo sufrió una cantidad significativa de daños. Parece que el hombre no llevaba puesto el cinturón de seguridad.
El personal de bomberos sacó al hombre del vehículo y lo trasladaron al Advocate Condell Medical Center en Libertyville con heridas graves que ponían en peligro su vida.
A pesar de los cuidados y el tratamiento, el hombre falleció horas después debido a sus heridas y fue declarado muerto en la unidad de cuidados intensivos.
Se notificó a la oficina forense del condado de Lake.
El fallecido fue identificado como Kyle Debevec, de 26 años, de Gurnee. La investigación preliminar del forense indica que la muerte de Debevec es consistente con lesiones por fuerza contundente como resultado del choque.

Muere al ser atropellado
Tras una extensa investigación realizada por el Equipo de Investigaciones Técnicas de Accidentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake, el conductor de la SUV GMC ha sido acusado por un Gran Jurado del Condado de Lake.
Los investigadores de accidentes del Sheriff determinaron que Alex Landa, de 33 años, de la cuadra 700 de Franklin, Winthrop Harbor, fue responsable de atropellar y matar a la ciclista Tiana Smith, de 18 años, de Zion.
El miércoles 5 de marzo de 2025, se presentó un testimonio ante un Gran Jurado del Condado de Lake sobre la evidencia reunida durante la investigación. El Gran Jurado del Condado de Lake acusó a Landa de un cargo de no informar de un accidente que implicó una muerte (delito grave de clase 1) y un cargo de DUI agravado que causó la muerte (delito grave de clase 2).
Tras la acusación directa, un juez del condado de Lake firmó una orden de arresto contra Landa.

Fatal Gurnee traffic crash
Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators are investigating an overnight serious single-vehicle traffic crash.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Stearns School Road and Mill Creek Drive, unincorporated Gurnee, for a traffic crash, where someone was trapped in the vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a Mercedes-Benz sedan with heavy damage.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver, a 26-year-old man from Gurnee, was traveling eastbound on Stearns School Road, approaching Mill Creek Drive. For an unknown reason, the man drove off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver’s side of the vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage. It appears the man was not wearing a seat belt.
Fire personnel extricated the man from the vehicle, and he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Despite care and treatment, the man succumbed to his injuries hours later and was pronounced deceased in the intensive care unit. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Kyle Debevec, of Gurnee. Preliminary coroner’s investigation indicates that Mr. Debevec’s death is consistent with blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.

Hit-and-run driver charged
Following an extensive investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team, the driver of the GMC SUV has been indicted by a Lake County Grand Jury.
Sheriff’s crash investigators determined Alex Landa, 33, of the 700 block of Franklin, Winthrop Harbor, was responsible for striking and killing bicyclist Tiana Smith, 18, of Zion.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, a Lake County Grand Jury was presented with testimony on the evidence gathered during the investigation. The Lake County Grand Jury indicted Landa on one count of failure to report a crash involving death (class 1 felony) and one count of aggravated DUI causing death (class 2 felony).
Following the direct indictment, a Lake County Judge signed a warrant for the arrest of Landa.
