Estimadas Familias

Escribo hoy para compartir algunos recursos valiosos y reiterar algunos de nuestros compromisos con nuestras familias y estudiantes durante estos tiempos difíciles. Como compartí con el personal a principios de esta semana, ahora es más importante que nunca que nuestras escuelas sean un lugar donde los estudiantes se sientan seguros, apoyados y bienvenidos, independientemente de sus antecedentes o circunstancias.

Compromisos y medidas de seguridad
Debemos mantener nuestro compromiso de asegurar que nuestras escuelas sean espacios de confianza en los que todos los estudiantes puedan centrarse en el aprendizaje. Para eso, quiero recordar a nuestra comunidad lo siguiente:

• No Recopilamos Información sobre el Estatus Migratorio- No recopilamos información sobre el estatus migratorio de los estudiantes o sus familias.

Acceso de Agentes Federales
Los agentes federales de inmigración no tienen permitido el acceso a los estudiantes sin una orden judicial válida.

Privacidad de la Información
No compartimos información de los estudiantes con agentes de inmigración, o cualquier otra agencia federal sin la debida documentación legal o permiso de los padres.

Obligación Legal de Proporcionar Educación
Estamos legalmente obligados a proporcionar educación a todos los estudiantes, independientemente de su estatus migratorio. Esto significa que todos los niños, independientemente de su origen, tienen derecho a asistir a la escuela y recibir una educación sin temor a ser discriminados o excluidos.

Formación y Preparación del Personal
En los últimos días, el personal de recepción de todos nuestros edificios ha recibido entrenamiento sobre cómo actuar en caso de que los agentes de inmigración lleguen a uno de nuestros planteles. Esto asegura que nuestro personal esté equipado con la información necesaria para actuar adecuadamente y seguir las políticas y leyes aplicables, protegiendo al mismo tiempo los derechos de nuestros estudiantes.

Recursos para familias y estudiantes
Estamos comprometidos a mantener una comunicación abierta y constante con las familias, los estudiantes y el personal sobre este tema. También queremos compartir recursos de información que puedan ayudar a las familias a navegar mejor en estos momentos de incertidumbre. Hay una gran variedad de entidades que proporcionan información. A continuación, se indican algunas de las que están ampliamente disponibles.

Sesión de los Derechos de Inmigración
Seremos anfitriones de una segunda reunión de los derechos de inmigración a las 7 p.m. el jueves 13 de febrero en la Escuela Intermedia Juárez. Esta reunión, que se llevará a cabo con representantes de la North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, también será transmitida en vivo en línea. Distribución de Tarjetas
Nuestras escuelas están en el proceso de distribución de tarjetas “Conozca sus Derechos” a los estudiantes que estén interesados. Estas tarjetas, que se imprimen internamente en papel dorado, son similares a las tradicionales “tarjetas rojas”, compartidas por los defensores de los inmigrantes, y contienen información para ayudar a las personas a hacer valer sus derechos y defenderse de las violaciones constitucionales durante las interacciones con ICE.

Sobre todo, quiero insistir una vez más en que sigamos acercándonos los unos a los otros con empatía y comprensión en momentos como estos, en los que nuestro compromiso con la amabilidad y el respeto es lo más importante. District 60 supports students
I’m writing today to share some valuable resources and to reiterate some of our commitments to our families and students during these difficult times. As I shared with staff earlier this week, it is more important than ever for our schools to be a place where students feel safe, supported, and welcomed, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Commitments and safeguards
We must remain committed to ensuring our schools are trusted spaces where all students can focus on learning. To that end, I want to remind our community of the following:

No Immigration Status Collection
We do not collect information on students’ or family immigration status.

Federal Agents’ Access
Federal immigration agents are not allowed student access without a valid criminal warrant.

Information Privacy
We do not share student information with immigration officials, or any other federal agencies without proper legal documentation or parental permission.

Legal Obligation to Provide Education
We are legally required to provide an education to all students, regardless of their immigration status. This means that every child, no matter their background, has the right to attend school and receive an education without fear of discrimination or exclusion.

Staff Training & Preparedness
In recent days, front office staff at all of our buildings have received training on how to handle situations should immigration officials ever arrive on one of our campuses. This ensures our staff are equipped with the information needed to act appropriately and follow applicable policies and laws, while also protecting the rights of our students.

Resources for families and students
We are committed to continuing open and regular communication and education with our families, students, and staff on this topic. We are also eager to share information resources that may be able to help families better navigate these uncertainties. There are a variety of entities that provide information. Below are a few that are widely available.

Immigration Rights Session
We will be hosting a second immigration rights meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, at Juarez Middle School. This meeting, which will be conducted with representatives from the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, will also be broadcast live online. Be on the lookout for more information in the upcoming days, and please take time to watch our last informational session if you have not already done so.

Distribution of Cards
Our schools are in the process of distributing “Know Your Rights” cards to students who are interested. These cards, which are printed internally on gold paper, are similar to traditional “red cards,” shared by immigration advocates, and contain information to help people assert their rights and defend themselves against constitutional violations during interactions with ICE.

In the event that a family member or loved one is ever taken into custody by ICE officials, you can locate them using this website.

Legal Toolkit Access
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center has a valuable toolkit to help families create a family preparedness plan in case of an emergency. You can access the toolkit here in English and Spanish.
Above all, I want to again urge us all to continue to approach one another with empathy and understanding in moments like these when our commitment to kindness and respect matters most. Let us continue to show compassion for one another and ensure that every student, feels safe in our schools.
