La Junta de Educación del Distrito 60 de Waukegan nombra a Víctor Hinojosa.

Waukegan, IL. – La Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar 60 de la Unidad Comunitaria de Waukegan nombró al estudiante de segundo año de la Escuela Secundaria de Waukegan, Víctor Hinojosa, como su miembro más joven de la Junta Estudiantil durante su reunión del 24 de enero.
Víctor es estudiante en WHS-Brookside Campus, donde está muy involucrado en el programa JROTC. Se desempeña como líder de escuadrón y sargento de personal. También es Subgerente del equipo Drill y Capitán Académico del equipo JLAB. Fuera de la escuela, es el primer estudiante de Waukegan en la memoria reciente en servir en el Consejo Asesor Estudiantil (SAC) de la Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois.
En su tiempo libre, Víctor también se desempeña en posiciones de liderazgo con High School Democrats of America y el Centro de Acción Legislativa Juvenil y dice que ve la participación en varias organizaciones como una forma de marcar la diferencia no solo para sus compañeros, sino también para los demás.
“Desde temprana edad, he querido servir a algo más grande que yo y descubrí que en el trabajo que hacen los servidores públicos, desde debatir, abogar, crear y aprobar leyes que pueden afectar la vida de tantas personas. Lo veo como un recipiente para el cambio por el que me votaron”, dijo Víctor.
Víctor ha sido estudiante en las Escuelas de Waukegan desde el jardín de niños, habiendo asistido previamente a la Escuela Intermedia John Lewis, las escuelas primarias Lyon, McCall y Hyde Park. En 2020-2021 se desempeñó como representante estudiantil en el comité de cambio de nombre de la escuela secundaria Lewis.
Como Miembro de la Junta Estudiantil, dice que quiere hacer cambios que impactarán positivamente a toda la comunidad.
“Vine aquí para iniciar una revolución educativa y social para traer un cambio real y materialista a la vida de todos los que llaman hogar a WPS60. Soy un luchador por la población”, dijo Víctor.
Reemplaza a Joanna Gutiérrez, quien completó su mandato de un año como quinto miembro de la junta estudiantil del Distrito. El mandato de Víctor como candidato sin derecho a voto se extenderá hasta enero de 2024.
Como miembro de la Junta Estudiantil, el estudiante tendrá tiempo en cada agenda de la Junta Escolar para hablar sobre las preocupaciones, el plan de estudios y las actividades de los estudiantes. Actuará como enlace entre los estudiantes y la junta escolar, recopilará las preocupaciones y celebraciones de los estudiantes de diversas maneras y ayudará a comunicar información importante de la junta escolar a los estudiantes.

Is the newest Student Board Member
The Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60 Board of Education appointed Waukegan High School Sophomore Victor Hinojosa as its newest Student Board Member during its January 24 meeting.
Victor is a student at the WHS-Brookside Campus, where he is heavily involved in the JROTC program. Victor serves as a squad leader and staff sergeant. He is also the Assistant Manager of the Drill team, and Academic Captain of the JLAB team. Outside of school, Victor is the first Waukegan student in recent memory to serve on the Illinois State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Council (SAC).
In his spare time Victor also serves in leadership positions with the High School Democrats of America and the Youth Legislative Action Center. Victor says he sees involvement in various organizations as a way for him to make a difference not just for his peers, but others as well.
“From a young age, I’ve wanted to serve something greater than myself and I found that in the work public servants do- from debating, advocating, creating, and passing legislation that can affect the lives of so many people. I see it as a vessel for the change I was voted in to do,” Victor said.
Victor has been a student in Waukegan Schools since kindergarten, having previously attended John Lewis Middle School, Lyon, McCall and Hyde Park elementaries. In 2020-2021 he served as the student representative on the Lewis Middle School renaming committee.
As Student Board Member, he says he wants to make changes that will positively impact the entire community.
“I came here to start an Educational and Social Revolution to bring real, materialistic change to the lives of everyone that calls WPS60 home. I am a fighter for the populace,” Victor said.
Victor replaces Joanna Gutierrez, who completed her yearlong term as the District’s fifth student board member. Victor’s term as a non-voting candidate will run through January 2024.
As a Student Board Member, Victor will be given time on each School Board agenda to speak regarding student concerns, curriculum, and activities. He will act as a liaison between the students and school board, gather student concerns and celebrations in a variety of ways, and help communicate important information from the School Board to students.
