Zion, IL. – Lakeview Preschool (Zion Elementary School District 6) has been working hard to create a strong, positive home-school connection with their Wee Bee parents. The building leadership team and Principal Dr. Cheryl Caesar have planned several parent/child activity days, which included a picnic, and most recently, Thankful Thanksgiving. These activities are set-up on a varied schedule in order accommodate parents’ schedules as much as possible. At Lakeview, they strive for parent engagement in all aspects of their preschool program and look forward to parents being involved.
Last year, the building leadership team had students participate in a Turkey Feather Scavenger Hunt. Students were given a feather of their own and placed the feather on a giant turkey. This activity gave the students a stronger connection as they all worked together to fill out the turkey. This year, the building leadership team and Principal Caesar wanted to shift their focus and create an activity about being thankful. On Friday, November 16, Lakeview Preschool invited parents to attend their Thankful Thanksgiving parent/child activity. Thankful Thanksgiving was created to impact more than the parents and children of Lakeview. Through this activity, children created postcards and drawings for those in need of cheering up. With the help of Principal Caesar, the postcards created will be sent to places such as rest homes and hospitals. It is heart-warming to see how much effort students put into creating and decorating postcards for those in need of cheering up.
