Deer Park, IL. – Un ayudante del sheriff del condado de Lake que ayudaba en una parada de tráfico casi fue atropellado por un automóvil que pasaba el domingo por la noche.
El 14 de abril de 2024, aproximadamente a las 8:30 p.m., un ayudante del sheriff realizó una parada de tráfico en la Ruta 12 cerca de Long Grove Road en Deer Park, a alguien con el registro del vehículo suspendido. Un segundo patrullero llegó para ayudar. Ambos agentes tenían activadas todas las luces de emergencia de sus patrullas. Cuando el oficial de respaldo salió de su patrulla, un sedán Hyundai en dirección sur, conducido por un hombre de 80 años de Park Ridge, golpeó la puerta del oficial y casi lo golpea. Afortunadamente, ni el conductor ni el agente resultaron heridos en el accidente. El conductor del Hyundai fue citado por violar la “Ley Scott”.
Todos los conductores deben conocer la “Ley de Scott”, que lleva el nombre del teniente de bomberos de Chicago Scott Gillen, quien fue atropellado y murió mientras se encontraba en la escena de un accidente de tránsito. La ‘Ley de Scott’ exige que todos los conductores cambien de carril y, si no pueden, reduzcan en gran medida la velocidad del vehículo al acercarse a un vehículo de emergencia o utilitario con las luces intermitentes activadas.

Accidente de tráfico fatal en Antioch

El 14 de abril de 2024, aproximadamente a las 10:45 p. m., los agentes del sheriff del condado de Lake fueron enviados al área de North Avenue y Deep Lake Road, en la zona no incorporada de Antioch, por un accidente de tránsito de un solo vehículo con heridos. Los agentes del sheriff llegaron y encontraron a un hombre de Antioch de 25 años, fallecido, en el suelo cerca de los escombros.
La investigación preliminar muestra que una Ford F-350 2022, conducida por un hombre de 25 años, viajaba en dirección oeste por North Avenue, a lo que parece ser una alta velocidad. Mientras el conductor viajaba en dirección oeste, se salió de la carretera por un motivo desconocido y chocó contra varias señales de tránsito. Luego, el Ford dio varias vueltas y chocó contra un árbol. El conductor salió del vehículo y se desplomó.
Un pasajero del vehículo, un hombre de Antioquía de 27 años, resultó gravemente herido en el accidente. Fue transportado al Centro Médico Advocate Condell con heridas que ponen en peligro su vida.
El alcohol parece ser un factor en el accidente.
La oficina forense del condado de Lake acudió al lugar. El fallecido ha sido identificado como Guy Seelye, de 25 años, de Antioquía. El lunes 15 de abril de 2024 se realizó una autopsia en la oficina forense del condado de Lake. Los resultados preliminares de la autopsia indican que Seelye murió a causa de las heridas contundentes sufridas como resultado del accidente.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy assisting at a traffic stop was nearly struck by a passing car Sunday evening.
On April 14, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Route 12 near Long Grove Road in Deer Park, because the vehicle’s registration was suspended. A second deputy arrived to assist. Both deputies had all the emergency lights on their squad cars activated. As the backup deputy exited his squad car, a southbound Hyundai sedan, driven by an 80-year-old man of Park Ridge, struck the deputy’s door, nearly striking the deputy. Fortunately, neither the driver, nor the deputy, were injured in the crash. The driver of the Hyundai was cited for violating ‘Scott’s Law.’
All drivers should be aware of ‘Scott’s Law,’ named after Chicago Fire Lieutenant Scott Gillen, who was struck and killed, while he was on the scene of a traffic crash. ‘Scott’s Law’ requires all drivers to change lanes and, if unable, greatly reduce the vehicle’s speed when approaching an emergency vehicle or utility vehicle with flashing lights activated.

Fatal Unincorporated Antioch Traffic Crash
Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators are investigating a Sunday evening fatal traffic crash.
On April 14, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of North Avenue and Deep Lake Road, unincorporated Antioch, for a single-vehicle traffic crash with injuries. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 25-year-old man of Antioch, deceased, on the ground near the wreckage.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2022 Ford F-350, driven by the 25-year-old man, was traveling westbound on North Avenue, at what appears to be a high rate of speed. As the driver traveled westbound, he left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking several traffic signs. The Ford then rolled several times and struck a tree. The driver exited the vehicle and collapsed.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 27-year-old man of Antioch, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Guy Seelye, of Antioch. On Monday, April 15, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Mr. Seelye died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
