Zion, IL. – El perro K9 Dax del Sheriff del condado de Lake resultó herido durante la detención de un delincuente que huía este fin de semana. El 3 de marzo de 2024, aproximadamente a las 23:55 horas, agentes de policía de Pleasant Prairie estaban persiguiendo un vehículo robado. El conductor del vehículo en un momento chocó contra un coche patrulla de Pleasant Prairie. Después de golpear al escuadrón, el conductor chocó el auto robado en la cuadra 41000 de North Green Bay Road, Zion.
Posteriormente, el conductor se dio a la fuga a pie. Se pidió a K9 Dax y al ayudante Forlenza que rastrearan al sospechoso que huía, ya que se creía que se escondía en una zona boscosa. El dúo llegó al lugar y el oficial Forlenza advirtió al delincuente que se rindiera, y K9 Dax comenzó a ladrar para advertirle al delincuente. El delincuente se negó a entregarse o darse a conocer y después de un breve seguimiento, K9 Dax localizó al delincuente escondido en el bosque. K9 Dax mordió al delincuente en la zona del torso y posteriormente se entregó.
El delincuente, posteriormente identificado como un joven de 16 años de Zión, fue detenido, trasladado a un hospital del área para recibir tratamiento por la mordedura. Hay cargos pendientes en Illinois y Wisconsin.
Durante la detención, K9 Dax sufrió una lesión que le impidió soportar peso sobre sus patas traseras. K9 Dax se encuentra actualmente bajo el cuidado de un veterinario.
K9 Dax injured during apprehension
Lake County Sheriff’s K9 Dax was injured during an apprehension of a fleeing felon this weekend.
On March 3, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m. Pleasant Prairie Police Officers were pursuing a stolen vehicle. The driver of the vehicle at one point struck a Pleasant Prairie Squad Car. After striking the squad, the driver crashed the stolen car in the 41000 block of North Green Bay Road, unincorporated Zion.
The driver then fled on foot. Sheriff’s K9 Dax and Deputy Forlenza were requested to track the fleeing suspect, as it was believed he was hiding in a wooded area. The duo arrived at the scene and Deputy Forlenza gave announcements warning the offender to surrender, and K9 Dax began barking to further warn the offender. The offender refused to surrender or make himself known and after a brief track, K9 Dax located the offender hiding in the woods. K9 Dax bit the offender in the torso area, and he subsequently surrendered.
The offender, later identified as a 16-year-old juvenile of Zion, was apprehended, transported to an area hospital for the bite and treated. Charges are pending in Illinois and Wisconsin.
During the apprehension, K9 Dax sustained an injury resulting in him not being able to bear weight on his hind legs. K9 Dax is currently under the care of a veterinarian.
