Lake County, IL.- Las elecciones generales del 6 de noviembre de 2018 están por llegar y son importantes ya que a nivel federal se eligen representantes para el congreso en los distritos 6, 10 y 14.
Asimismo, los comicios son para elegir gobernador, vicegobernador, procurador general, secretario de estado, contralor, tesorero y senador estatal en los distrito 26, 29, 30 y 32.
Y por lo que respecta a nivel condado, para secretario, tesorero, alguacil o sheriff, superintendente regional de las escuelas, miembros de la junta del condado en los distritos 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 y 21 y, síndicos del distrito de recuperación de aguas residuales de North Shore en las áreas 3 y 5.
No olvide que a lo largo de octubre puede registrarse para votar, incluso emitir el sufragio temprano antes del día de las elecciones del 6 de noviembre.

Este es el primer artículo de nuestra serie: Política, donde informaremos a los lectores de PF News sobre los candidatos que se postulan para los puestos ya descritos. En esta edición hablaremos de la contienda para la oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake entre el republicano Mark Curran y el demócrata John Idleburg.

Mark Curran
El actual sheriff Mark Curran de Libertyville ha servido dos términos como candidato republicano después de ser elegido como demócrata en 2006. Curran tiene una licenciatura en Administración de Empresas, una maestría en Derecho y un Juris Doctor en Derecho, y fue nombrado uno de los mejores abogados en Illinois en 2006 por la publicación “Super Abogados”.
Desde que asumió el cargo, el Sheriff ha mantenido los gastos por debajo del presupuesto durante once años debido a los cambios que ha iniciado. Ha intercambiado diputados de tiempo completo a tiempo parcial como parte de este objetivo.
En respuesta a una creciente epidemia de adicción en el Condado de Lake, Curran inició varios programas, como el empleo de la medicina Naloxone para revertir la sobredosis de drogas de opioide.
Después de reunirse con el Cardenal George, el Sheriff dice que ya no apoya la deportación masiva y por eso ha servido en el Comité de Reforma de Inmigración de la asociación de Sherrifs.
Curran, ha generado una variedad de controversias, algunas de las cuales han resultado en pagos costosos. En 2014, una diputada ganó un acuerdo de 1.2 millones porque fue discriminada por ser mujer. Desde 2011, la cárcel del condado tuvo cinco muertes de reclusos con demandas costosas.
El condado también tuvo que pagar 2 millones en un acuerdo federal porque un hombre murió después a causa de daño recibido durante una pelea con un oficial correccional en una cárcel en 2011. Recientemente, diputados de Curran estuvieron involucrados en un incidente en el que una familia fue amenazada con deportación si su hijo de 20 años no actuaba como informante.

John Idleburg
John Idleburg, antiguo miembro del Comité de Precintos de Zion, se presenta para la oficina del Sheriff por primera vez con su larga carrera en la aplicación de la ley. Nacido en Chicago, su familia se mudó a Zion para escapar de la actividad de pandillas, e Idleburg asistió a la escuela secundaria local.
Sirvió en el Cuerpo de Marines de E.U., y regresó a Zion para trabajar como sindicalista en Johnson Motors y luego como Diputado de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake. Idleburg trabajó para el Departamento de Policía de Great Lakes.
Después de ser promovido a la oficina de detectives, fue invitado a trabajar como Investigador Especial primero con el Departamento de Defensa y luego con el Departamento del Tesoro de Estados Unidos.
Después de retirarse del servicio federal, el candidato trabajó para la Reserva Forestal de Lake Forest, la Policía de Zion y el Hospital de Lake Forest. Actualmente, ocupa varios cargos públicos, incluido el de presidente de la Asociación de Policía de Illinois, y el de Comisionado para la Comisión de Policía y Bomberos en Zion y para la Autoridad de Vivienda del Condado de Lake.
Idleburg también se desempeñó como Comandante de Correos para la Legión Estadounidense de Zion Puesto 865 durante cuatro años, una organización que trabaja para preservar los valores estadounidenses y ayudar a los veteranos y sus familias.

Curran or Idleburg for Sheriff?
The general elections are coming on November 6, 2018, and they are important because at the federal level representatives are going to be elected for Congress in districts 6, 10 and 14.
In addition, the elections will also determine the state governor, vice governor, attorney general, secretary, comptroller, treasurer and state senator in district 26, 29, 30 and 32; and at county level, the secretary, treasurer, sheriff, regional superintendent of schools, county board members in districts 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 17 , 18, 19, 20 and 21, and receivers from the North Shore water reclamation trustee in areas 3 and 5.
Do not forget that throughout October you can register to vote, even cast your ballot early before the day of the elections on November 6.
This is the first article in our series: Politics, where we will inform the PF News readers about the candidates who are running for the offices already described. In this issue we will discuss the race for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office between Republican Mark Curran and Democrat John Idleburg.

Mark Curran
Incumbent Sheriff Mark Curran from Libertyville has served two terms as a Republican candidate after he was elected as a Democrat in 2006. Curran holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a master’s in Law, and a Juris Doctor in Law, and he was named one of the top lawyers in Illinois in 2006 by the publication “Super Lawyers.”
Since taking office, the Sheriff has kept expenditures under budget for eleven years because of budgetary changes he has initiated. He has exchanged full-time deputies for part-time employees as part of this goal.
Responding to a growing epidemic of addiction in Lake County, the Curran initiated several programs like the employment of the opioid reversal drug Naloxone in order to reverse opioid overdose. After meeting with Cardinal George, the Sheriff says he no longer supports mass deportation and has served on the Sheriff’s association’s Immigration Reform Committee. Curran’s time in office has allowed him to achieve notable accomplishments, but it has also led to a variety of controversies, some of which have resulted in expensive payouts. In 2014, a female deputy won a $1.2 million settlement because she was discriminated against due to her being a woman. Since 2011, the county jail had five inmate deaths with expensive lawsuits.
The county also had to pay $2 million in a federal lawsuit settlement for a man who died due to injuries obtained from a fight with a correctional officer at a jail in 2011. Most recently, Curran’s deputies were involved in an incident where a family was threatened with deportation if their 20-year-old son did not act as an informant.

John Idleburg
Former Zion Precinct Committeeman, John Idleburg’s is running for the Sheriff’s office for the first time with his long-standing career in law enforcement. Born in Chicago, his family moved to Zion to escape the gang activity, and Idleburg attended the local high school.
The candidate served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and after completing his service he returned to Zion to work as union worker at Johnson Motors and then as a Deputy for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Idleburg worked for the Great Lakes Police Department as well.
After getting promoted to the detective bureau, he was invited to work with the U.S. Department of Defense as a Special Investigator and then the U.S. Treasury Department as a Special Agent. After retiring from federal service, the candidate worked for the Lake County Forest Preserve, Zion Park Police and Lake Forest Hospital.
Currently, he holds various public positions, including President of the Illinois Police Association, and Commissioner for the Police and Fire Commission in Zion and for the Lake County Housing Authority.
Idleburg also served as the Post Commander for the American Legion Zion Post 865 for four years, an organization which works to preserve American values and assist veterans and their families.
Recently, the candidate has denounced Curran for taking a picture with Attorney General Jeff Sessions who has been responsible for separating thousands of kids from their migrant parents.
