Lake Zurich, IL. – Un ayudante del sheriff del condado de Lake se está recuperando después de haber sido atacado por un hombre en Lake Zurich. El 14 de enero de 2024, aproximadamente a las 8:55 a.m., agentes del sheriff del condado de Lake fueron enviados a una residencia en la cuadra 23800 de North High Ridge Drive, en Lake Zurich, para un control de bienestar. Una persona que llamó informó que la casa no tenía servicios públicos que funcionaran y que estaban preocupados por los ocupantes del interior, dadas las gélidas temperaturas.
Los uniformados controlaron a los ocupantes, quienes estaban bien, pero molestos con la presencia de los ayudantes del sheriff y no cooperaron. Antes de partir, uno de los agentes en el lugar regresó a su patrulla para recuperar información sobre los servicios y recursos disponibles para estas personas.
El oficial regresó al porche para dejar los trámites, cuando un hombre de 30 años salió del domicilio y le arrojó un trozo de madera. La agente pudo moverse para evitar ser golpeada, sin embargo, al moverse, cayó de espaldas a la nieve. El hombre inmediatamente saltó sobre la agente y comenzó a golpearla en la cara.
Los otros ayudantes del sheriff en el lugar corrieron para ayudar. Uno de los agentes de respaldo intentó utilizar su dispositivo de control electrónico (Taser), sin embargo, el dispositivo no detuvo al hombre de su ataque. Los agentes de respaldo pudieron derribar al hombre al suelo y detenerlo. Luego, el hombre comenzó a escupir a los agentes.
Tanto la agente agredida como el agresor fueron trasladados a un hospital de la zona. La oficial fue atendida y dada de alta. El delincuente hizo declaraciones de autolesión y el personal del hospital lo está transportando a otro hospital para una evaluación más exhaustiva.
El sheriff John D. Idleburg dijo: “El trabajo policial a menudo puede ser extremadamente impredecible. En este caso, una de nuestras oficiales intentaba brindar recursos a una familia y fue atacada violentamente. Estoy agradecido de que nuestro ayudante estará bien y nos aseguraremos de que el delincuente rinda cuentas penalmente por sus acciones una vez que le den el alta del hospital”.
Los ayudantes del sheriff revisarán las circunstancias con la Oficina del Fiscal Estatal del Condado de Lake y solicitarán una orden de arresto.

Sheriff’s deputy attacked
A Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after being attacked by an Unincorporated Lake Zurich Man. On January 14, 2024, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 23800 block of North High Ridge Drive, Unincorporated Lake Zurich, for a well-being check. A caller reported the home had no working utilities, and they were concerned for the occupants inside, given the frigid temperatures.
Sheriff’s deputies checked on the occupants, who were okay, but upset with the presence of the sheriff’s deputies and uncooperative. Before departing, one of the deputies at the scene returned to her squad car to retrieve information on services and resources available for those struggling. The deputy returned to the porch to leave the paperwork, when a 30-year-old man exited the home and threw a piece of wood at the deputy. The deputy was able to move to avoid being struck, however, as she moved, she fell backward into the snow. The man immediately jumped onto the deputy and began punching her in the face.
The other sheriff’s deputies at the scene ran to assist. One of the backup deputies attempted to utilize his Electronic Control Device (Taser), however, the device did not stop the man from his attack. The backup deputies were able to tackle the man to the ground and take him into custody. The man then started spitting on the deputies.
Both the deputy who was attacked and the offender were transported to an area hospital. The deputy was treated and has since been released. The offender made statements of self-harm, and hospital staff are transporting him to another hospital for further evaluation.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Police work can often be extremely unpredictable. In this instance, one of our deputy’s was trying to provide resources to a family, and she was violently attacked. I am thankful our deputy will be okay and we will ensure the offender is held criminally accountable for his actions, upon his discharge from the hospital.”
Sheriff’s deputies will review the circumstances with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and seek an arrest warrant.
