Waukegan, IL.- Rescatan bomberos a una persona atrapada en incendio, para posteriormente, en estado crítico, ser atendida y transportada a un hospital cercado, el pasado domingo en el 700 de la calle Linden en esta ciudad.
El domingo por la noche, 24 de noviembre de 2019, justo después de las 5:30 p.m., el Departamento de Bomberos de Waukegan fue enviado a la cuadra 700 de la calle Linden para recibir un informe de una alarma de detector de humo en un departamento con humo visible desde una unidad vecina.
Mientras se dirigían al citado lugar, fueron alertados de que la persona que llamaba estaba evacuando su unidad y notó que el humo provenía de la puerta del apartamento al lado de ellos y que también podían escuchar la alarma del detector de humo adentro.
A la llegada de la primera tripulación que respondía, se notaron llamas provenientes de ventanas en el lado sur de una de las unidades en un complejo de apartamentos de 4 unidades. Los equipos comenzaron un ataque agresivo rápido para limitar el fuego a este apartamento.
Otros equipos que respondieron de inmediato también comenzaron a buscar cualquier persona en el departamento que estaba en llamas. Los equipos localizaron y eliminaron rápidamente a una persona, masculino, de aproximadamente 50-60 años. Los equipos de bomberos de Waukegan atendieron y transportaron a la persona en estado crítico al Centro Médico Vista East en Waukegan.
El incendio se contuvo en uno de los departamentos de este edificio, sin embargo, las otras 3 unidades también fueron desalojadas debido a que la energía eléctrica tuvo que desconectarse de todo el edificio. La Cruz Roja Americana ayudó a los desplazados de este incidente.
El incendio se extinguió en 30 minutos, mientras los equipos permanecieron en el lugar para revisión e investigación durante 3 horas. Las estimaciones iniciales de daños a la estructura son de aproximadamente 40 mil dólares.
La causa del incendio aún está bajo investigación. El mariscal de bomberos Steven Lenzi declaró: “Nuestros equipos de bomberos una vez más realizaron un trabajo muy rápido y detuvieron un incendio muy complicado, limitando el daño a una sola unidad en este edificio de 4 unidades.
Si bien no solo trabajaron rápidamente para extinguir este incendio, los equipos pudieron rescatar a una persona, brindarle atención médica crítica y transportarla al hospital. Este incendio sirve como recordatorio de que los detectores de humo que funcionan salvan vidas. Las alarmas de humo son una parte clave de un plan de escape de incendios en el hogar. Cuando hay un incendio, el humo se propaga rápidamente. Las alarmas de humo que funcionan le avisan con anticipación para que pueda salir rápidamente”.
Waukegan Fire crews rescue victim from apartment fire
On Sunday evening November 24, 2019 at just after 5:30pm, the Waukegan Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 Block of Linden Street for a report of a smoke detector alarming in an apartment with smoke visible from a neighboring unit.
While enroute, responding crews were alerted that a caller was evacuating their unit and noted smoke coming from around the door of the apartment next to them that they could also hear a smoke detector alarming inside of. Upon the arrival of the first responding crew flames were noted coming from windows on the south side of one of the units in a 4 unit apartment complex.
Crews began a rapid aggressive attack to confine the fire to this one apartment. Other responding crews immediately also began a search for any subjects in the apartment that was on fire. Crews rapidly located and removed an approximately 50-60 year old male subject from the fire unit.
Waukegan Fire crews treated and transported this subject in critical condition to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. The fire was contained to the one apartment in this building, however the other 3 units were also displaced due to power having to be shut off to the entire building. The American Red Cross assisted those displaced from this incident. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, while crews remained on location for overhaul and investigation for a total of 3 hours. Initial estimates for damages to the structure are approximately $40,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at the time of this release. Fire Marshal Steven Lenzi stated: “Our fire crews once again made a very quick attack and stopped a very involved fire, confining damage to just one unit in this 4 unit building. While not only rapidly working to extinguish this fire, crews were able to rescue a subject, provide critical medical care and transport the victim to the hospital. This fire serves as a reminder that working smoke detectors save lives. Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.”
