Zion, IL. – El 7 de julio de 2022, aproximadamente a las 8:35 p. m., el Departamento de Policía de Zion respondió al área de la cuadra 2900 de Gideon por un informe de disparos. Los oficiales llegaron y encontraron a un joven de 17 años con una herida de bala. La víctima fue transportada a un hospital del área donde, a pesar de la atención y el tratamiento, fue declarado muerto en la sala de emergencias.
La oficina del forense del condado de Lake fue notificada y respondió al hospital.
El fallecido ha sido identificado como Diego Carreto, de 17 años, de Zion. El 8 de julio de 2022, se completó una autopsia en la oficina del forense del condado de Lake. Los resultados preliminares de la autopsia indican que Diego murió de una herida de bala en el pecho.
Los detectives de Zion trabajaron incansablemente durante toda la noche e identificaron a un sospechoso, un hombre de 15 años de Zion, que fue detenido esta mañana temprano (8 de julio). El sospechoso ha sido acusado de dos cargos de asesinato en primer grado y luego fue transportado y entregado al Centro de Detención Juvenil.

A minor under 15 kills a 17-year-old
On July 7, 2022, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Zion Police Department responded to the area of the 2900 block of Gideon for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital where despite care and treatment he was pronounced dead in the Emergency Room.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Diego Carreto of Zion. On July 8, 2022, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Diego died from a gunshot wound of the chest.
Zion Detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night and identified a suspect, a 15 year old male from Zion, who was taken into custody early this morning (July 8). The suspect has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and was later transported and turned over to the Juvenile Detention Center.
