Lake County, IL. – On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded to Sheridan Road and Glen Flora Avenue for a report of a serious single-vehicle crash with a vehicle fire. Bystanders as well as officers were unable to get the driver out of the vehicle due to the fire.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and located the driver, a 28-year-old Waukegan resident, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Vincent Reyna, of Waukegan. On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, an autopsy was performed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary results indicate that Mr. Reyna suffered significant injuries in the crash however toxicology results including Carbon Monoxide testing are pending.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit.
