En acción coordinada, agentes, personal de telecomunicaciones y equipos caninos del sheriff del condado de Lake trabajaron juntos para detener a un hombre violento.
El 30 de agosto de 2024, aproximadamente a las 10:15 p.m., los agentes del sheriff del condado de Lake respondieron a una residencia en la cuadra 24800 de West Crabtree Lane, Ingleside, por un informe de un hombre que amenazaba a un compañero de habitación con un cuchillo.
Los agentes del sheriff llegaron y hablaron con la víctima, quien dijo que Sebastian Homuth, de 30 años, de la misma dirección, se enfureció porque la víctima estaba usando el microondas.
Homuth recuperó un cuchillo de cocina grande y comenzó a apuntar a la víctima. La víctima retrocedió y corrió hacia su dormitorio, pero Homuth lo persiguió con el cuchillo en la mano. La víctima pudo entrar a su dormitorio, cerrar la puerta con llave y llamar al 911.
La víctima informó a los agentes del sheriff que Homuth todavía estaba dentro de la residencia. Los agentes del sheriff determinaron que la residencia estaba subdividida en diferentes apartamentos, por lo que los agentes evacuaron a los demás, debido al comportamiento errático de Homuth con un arma. Después de la evacuación, los agentes intentaron comunicarse con Homuth, pero no respondió. Se determinó que había una salida adicional que Homuth podría haber usado antes de que llegaran los agentes, y podría haber huido a pie.
Los equipos caninos del sheriff del condado de Lake, el agente Andrew Martini/K9 Danno y el agente Matt Savage/K9 Odin respondieron a la escena. El K9 Danno inicialmente rastreó a Homuth durante más de una milla a través de la reserva forestal Grant Woods.   El sheriff John D. Coordinated groups arrest criminal
Last night, Lake County Sheriff’s Telecommunicators, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Teams worked together to apprehend a violent man.
On August 30, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the 24800 block of West Crabtree Lane, Ingleside, for a report of a man threatening a roommate with a knife. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and spoke to the victim, who said Sebastian Homuth, 30, of the same address, became enraged the victim was using the microwave.
Homuth retrieved a large kitchen knife and began pointing it at the victim. The victim backed away and ran toward his bedroom, but Homuth chased him with the knife in hand. The victim was able to get into his bedroom, lock the door, and call 911.
The victim informed sheriff’s deputies that Homuth was still inside the residence. Sheriff’s deputies determined the residence was subdivided into different apartments, so sheriff’s deputies evacuated the others, due to Homuth’s erratic behavior with a weapon. Following the evacuation of the others, sheriff’s deputies attempted to communicate with Homuth, but Homuth did not respond. It was determined there was an additional exit Homuth could have used prior to deputies arriving, and Homuth may have fled on foot.
Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Teams Deputy Andrew Martini/K9 Danno and Deputy Matt Savage/K9 Odin responded to the scene. K9 Danno initially tracked Homuth for over a mile through the Grant Woods Forest Preserve. While tracking, it is likely Homuth knew the deputies were getting close, so he called 911 and reported an attack at the opposite end of the forest preserve.
Sheriff’s telecommunicators quickly determined the 911 caller was Homuth. Sheriff’s 911 telecommunicators used their skills to keep Homuth on the phone and talking, so they could narrow in on the location of the phone used to call 911. Sheriff’s telecommunicators used the information they obtained, so the perimeter could be tightened around Homuth’s location.
Sheriff’s K9 Danno and K9 Odin located Homuth. Homuth was argumentative and didn’t initially follow instructions to surrender. Sheriff’s telecommunicators encouraged Homuth to surrender, which he did, before one of the canines was released to apprehend him. He was taken into custody without incident.
Homuth was transported to the Lake County Jail, where he currently remains held. Homuth is currently refusing to go through the booking process at the jail, and will be held in the Lake County Jail until he is booked. He will then appear in First Appearance Court on the charges of:

• Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
• Disorderly Conduct – Misuse of 911.
• Resisting a Peace Officer.
  Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Behind every sheriff’s response is a sheriff’s emergency telecommunicator who goes above and beyond, tirelessly coordinating the response with precision and care. This is the second time in just a couple of days that our sheriff’s telecommunicators and sheriff’s canine teams collaborated to apprehend a fleeing suspect in our community. Excellent work to everyone involved!”
  The Lake County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Round Lake Police Department and Lake Villa Police Department for their assistance with this incident. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
