Grayslake, IL. – Agentes del sheriff del condado de Lake, con la ayuda del perro Duke, detuvieron a un hombre que cometió un robo durante la noche en una taberna en la cuadra 34200 de la ruta 45, en Grayslake.
El 14 de febrero de 2025, aproximadamente a las 3:45 a.m., los agentes del sheriff respondieron a una alarma antirrobo en el bar, al llegar encontraron la taberna segura, sin señales de robo.
El dueño de la llave del establecimiento no pudo responder, por lo que los agentes pudieron registrar el interior del edificio en ese momento.
Aproximadamente a las 7:00 a.m., el mismo día, el dueño de la llave llamó para denunciar un robo. Los agentes del sheriff respondieron y revisaron la videovigilancia, donde vieron a un hombre ingresar ilegalmente al bar y robar artículos. El hombre vestía ropa muy distintiva. Los agentes del sheriff localizaron huellas en la nieve, que siguieron hasta un edificio de apartamentos cercano.
Los agentes del sheriff llamaron a la puerta de una persona que vive en el complejo, Brendan M. Wilcox, de 37 años, del bloque 34000 de la Ruta 45, que tenía una orden de arresto activa por robo. Wilcox huyó por una ventana trasera.
El agente Dwight Arrowood y el perro policía Duke llegaron al lugar y realizaron un seguimiento inmediato. Rastrearon durante más de una milla y más de una hora. El perro policía Duke rastreó hasta una zona boscosa, donde se escondía Wilcox. Wilcox se negó a entregarse o a seguir instrucciones, por lo que se envió al perro policía Duke para ayudar en la detención. El perro policía mordió a Wilcox para entregarse después.
Los agentes del sheriff recuperaron la ropa distintiva que llevaba Wilcox durante el robo en su apartamento.
Wilcox fue detenido y trasladado a un hospital de la zona por la mordedura de perro. Fue tratado y puesto nuevamente bajo custodia de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake.
Después de revisar los hechos y circunstancias del incidente, la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado del Condado de Lake aprobó los siguientes cargos:

• Robo (delito grave de clase 3)
• Hurto (delito grave de clase 3)
• Resistirse/obstruir a un agente de paz

Canine Duke apprehends burglar
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance of Sheriff’s K9 Duke apprehended a man who committed an overnight burglary at a tavern in the 34200 block of Route 45, unincorporated Grayslake.
On February 14, 2025, at approximately 3:45 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm at the bar. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the tavern secure, without signs of a burglary. The keyholder of the establishment was not able to respond, so deputies could search the inside of the building at the time.
At approximately 7:00 a.m., the same day, the keyholder called to report a burglary. Sheriff’s deputies responded and reviewed video surveillance, where they saw a man unlawfully enter the bar, and steal items. The man was wearing very distinctive clothing. Sheriff’s deputies located footprints in the snow, which they followed to an apartment building nearby.
Sheriff’s deputies knocked on the door of a person who lives at the complex, Brendan M. Wilcox, 37, of the 34000 block of Route 45, who had an active arrest warrant for burglary. Wilcox fled out of a rear window.
Deputy Dwight Arrowood and K9 Duke arrived at the scene and conducted an immediate track. They tracked for over one mile, and over an hour. K9 Duke tracked to a wooded area, where Wilcox was hiding. Wilcox refused to surrender or following instructions, so K9 Duke was deployed to assist in the apprehension. K9 Duke bit Wilcox and he then surrendered.
Sheriff’s deputies recovered the distinctive clothing worn by Wilcox during the burglary at his apartment.
Wilcox was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for the dog bite. He was treated and released back into the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the incident, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges:

• Burglary (class 3 felony)
• Theft (class 3 felony)
• Resisting/obstructing a peace officer
