Gurnee, IL. – El Departamento de Policía de Gurnee está investigando una serie de incidentes ocurridos hoy temprano en Grand Avenue que parecen estar relacionados. La investigación continúa y se están presentando cargos.
Poco después de las 10:00 a.m. de lunes 2 de febrero, agentes respondieron a una llamada en la cuadra 6100 de Grand Avenue (Gurnee Mall) por un atropello a un peatón en un estacionamiento. La investigación preliminar indica que un vehículo circulaba por un pasillo del estacionamiento cuando atropelló a un hombre de 79 años que se encontraba cerca de su vehículo. El vehículo salió del pasillo y atropelló a una segunda persona, una mujer de 60 años.
El hombre de 79 años sufrió heridas graves y fue trasladado al Hospital Advocate Condell. La mujer de 60 años sufrió una lesión en el tobillo y fue trasladada al Hospital Lake Forest con lesiones que no ponían en peligro su vida. El vehículo huyó del lugar antes de la llegada de los agentes.

Series of connected incidents
The Gurnee Police Department is investigating a series of incidents that occurred on Grand Avenue earlier today that appear to be connected. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
Shortly after 10:00 AM this morning, officers responded to the 6100 block of Grand Avenue for reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian in a parking lot. Preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle was traveling through a parking lot aisle when it struck a 79-year-old male who was standing near his vehicle. The vehicle then exited the aisle and struck a second individual, a 60-year-old female.
The 79-year-old male sustained serious injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital. The 60-year-old female sustained an ankle injury and was transported to Lake Forest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.
Through witness statements and security footage from the area, officers were able to identify the type of vehicle involved and began actively searching the area.
While officers were canvassing the area, a Gurnee police officer observed a disturbance near the 6400 block of Grand Avenue involving a male and female engaged in a physical altercation. Officers issued verbal commands for the individuals to separate. The female stood up and aggressively approached the officer, prompting the deployment of a taser. She was subsequently taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed the female taken into custody was the driver involved in the earlier pedestrian crash. The driver is a 25-year-old female from Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Investigators determined that, after fleeing the initial scene, the female entered a nearby parking lot where she approached a male seated inside his vehicle. The female used a large butcher knife to strike the vehicle’s window and then slashed the driver’s side tire. When the male exited his vehicle, a physical struggle ensued. The male sustained several lacerations to his hands but was able to disarm the female and restrain her until police arrived.
The confrontation observed by officers at the secondary location led to the taser deployment and the female being safely taken into custody.
All involved incidents appear to be connected and appear to be random acts of violence. There is no ongoing threat to the public related to these events.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incidents. Charges are pending at this time.
