Lake County, IL. – Un jurado declaró culpable a Kevin Biron-Bomis, de 54 años, el pasado jueves 25 de junio, de asesinato en primer grado en relación con una paliza mortal ocurrida en 2022 en Gurnee.
El juicio con jurado comenzó el lunes 22 de junio de 2026 y duró cuatro días. El Estado estuvo representado por los jefes de policía Jason Humke y John Brown, y la fiscal adjunta Lindsay Hicks. La fiscalía presentó a más de una docena de testigos, incluyendo agentes del orden, personal médico y testigos presenciales.
En la madrugada del 25 de diciembre de 2022, el Departamento de Policía de Gurnee acudió al domicilio de Biron-Bomis, en la cuadra 100 de Boulevard View. Al llegar, Biron-Bomis les dijo a los agentes que creía haber matado a su hermano. Brandon Biron-Bomis, fue trasladado a un hospital donde fue declarado muerto. Durante el juicio, los agentes declararon que, al llegar al lugar de los hechos, Biron-Bomis les dijo que había tenido una pelea con su hermano y afirmó que este lo había iniciado. Los agentes observaron que el acusado no presentaba lesiones físicas visibles ni significativas al momento de su encuentro.
Los investigadores declararon que, durante el interrogatorio, el acusado les dijo que la pelea se originó cuando Brandon provocó a los clientes de un bar de Waukegan esa misma noche. Los investigadores también afirmaron que el acusado dio varias declaraciones contradictorias a lo largo del interrogatorio.
La fiscalía reprodujo un video de vigilancia del bar de Waukegan, donde se ve al acusado empujando a Brandon al suelo y comportándose de manera agresiva con otras personas en el bar. El video también mostraba a Brandon visiblemente ebrio, con dificultades para caminar en línea recta.
El personal médico determinó que Brandon sufrió múltiples lesiones traumáticas en la cara y la cabeza.
Después de que la fiscalía presentara sus pruebas, la defensa llamó a tres testigos, incluido el acusado. El testimonio de Biron-Bomis fue inconsistente con las versiones previas de los hechos que dio a los investigadores y con las pruebas presentadas por la fiscalía.
El fiscal del condado de Lake, Eric Rinehart, declaró: “Quiero felicitar tanto a las fuerzas del orden como al equipo del juicio por garantizar que este delincuente rindiera cuentas ante la justicia. El delincuente era el único presente cuando ocurrió el crimen. Sin una excelente investigación por parte del Departamento de Policía de Gurnee, el Grupo de Trabajo de Delitos Graves del Condado de Lake y la Oficina del Forense, un jurado podría haber creído el testimonio del acusado. En cambio, el jurado escuchó atentamente las pruebas presentadas por nuestros tres fiscales experimentados y llegó a las conclusiones correctas. Antes del juicio, Biron-Bomis permanecía detenido en la cárcel del condado de Lake con una fianza de 5 millones de dólares. (Esta fianza en efectivo fue fijada por un juez a finales de 2022, antes de la entrada en vigor de la reforma del sistema de fianzas, que ahora impide que las personas acusadas de asesinato paguen fianza si un juez así lo decide al inicio del caso). Tras el veredicto de culpabilidad, el juez Fix le revocó la posibilidad de pagar la fianza en efectivo.
Biron-Bomis se enfrenta a una pena de hasta 60 años en el Departamento Correccional de Illinois. Su próxima audiencia judicial está programada para el 17 de julio de 2026 para revisar su situación.

Jury Convicts Man of First-Degree Murder
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, a jury convicted Kevin Biron-Bomis, 54, of First-Degree Murder in connection to a 2022 fatal beating in Gurnee.
The jury trial began on Monday, June 22, 2026, lasting four days. The State was represented by Chief Jason Humke, Chief John Brown, and Assistant State’s Attorney Lindsay Hicks. Prosecutors called more than a dozen witnesses, including law enforcement officers, medical personnel, and eyewitnesses.
In the early morning of December 25, 2022, Gurnee Police Department responded to Biron-Bomis’ residence on the 100 block of Boulevard View. When officers arrived, Biron-Bomis told officers he believed he killed his brother. The victim, Brandon Biron-Bomis, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
During the trial, officers testified that when they first arrived at the scene, Biron-Bomis told them that he had been involved in a physical altercation with his brother and claimed that his brother started the fight. Officers noted that the defendant had no visible or significant physical injuries when they encountered him.
Investigators testified that during the interrogation, the defendant told them that the altercation stemmed from Brandon agitating patrons at a Waukegan bar earlier that night. Investigators also stated that the defendant gave several inconsistent statements throughout the interview.
Prosecutors played a surveillance video from the Waukegan bar, where the defendant is seen shoving Brandon to the ground and behaving aggressively towards others at the bar. The video also showed Brandon visibly impaired by alcohol, struggling to walk in a straight line.
Medical personnel determined that Brandon sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his face and head.
After the State rested its case, the defense called three witnesses, including the defendant. Biron-Bomis’ testimony was inconsistent with prior versions of events he first gave to investigators and inconsistent to the evidence the State presented.
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart stated, “I want to commend both law enforcement and the trial team in making sure that this offender was held accountable. The offender was the only one present when this crime occurred. Without an excellent investigation by the Gurnee Police Department, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, and the Coroner’s Office, a jury might have believed the Defendant’s testimony. Instead, the jury listened carefully to the evidence as presented by our three experienced prosecutors and reached the correct conclusions. We continue to express condolences to those who loved Brandon, and we will always support them.”
Before the trial, Biron-Bomis was being held in the Lake County Jail on a $5 million bond. (This cash bond was set by a judge in late 2022, before the effective date of bail reform which now prevents individuals charged with murder from posting bond if a judge so decides at the beginning of the case.) After the guilty verdict, Judge Fix revoked his ability to post cash bond.
Biron-Bomis is facing up to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. His next court hearing is scheduled for July 17, 2026, for status.
