Detectives de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake acusaron a tres hombres de incendio provocado tras determinar que prendieron fuego intencionalmente a un bar en Beach Park.

Beach Park, IL. – Agentes del Sheriff del Condado de Lake acudieron a un incendio estructural en el Social Pub, ubicado en el 37895 de North Sheridan Road en Beach Park, el cual causó daños catastróficos al edificio, el 17 de julio de 2026, aproximadamente a las 5:55 a.m.
Investigadores del Departamento de Bomberos de Beach Park, de la Oficina del jefe de Bomberos del Estado de Illinois y de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake determinaron que el incendio era sospechoso y había sido provocado intencionalmente.
Los detectives del Sheriff llevaron a cabo una investigación exhaustiva que incluyó la revisión de videos de vigilancia de varios lugares, la recopilación de pruebas y la realización de numerosas entrevistas. Durante la investigación, los detectives identificaron un vehículo sospechoso que se encontraba en la zona cuando comenzó el incendio. El 23 de julio de 2026, los detectives localizaron el vehículo en la cuadra 900 de Broadway Avenue, en North Chicago, e interrogaron a dos personas que, según sospechaban, habían participado en provocar el incendio.
Los detectives determinaron que Fernando A. Mejia (18 años, residente de la cuadra 900 de Broadway Avenue, North Chicago), Fulgencio Benites-Gaspar (36 años, con el mismo domicilio) y Estivent J. Mena-Ferrera (21 años, residente de la cuadra 3000 de Caryn Lane, Waukegan) fueron los responsables de iniciar el fuego. Los detectives establecieron que Mejia y Benites-Gaspar estaban molestos porque el personal del bar los había expulsado semanas antes y planearon incendiar el establecimiento.
Tras revisar los hechos y las circunstancias de la investigación, la Fiscalía del Estado del Condado de Lake aprobó tres cargos de incendio provocado (delito grave de Clase 2), uno contra cada acusado. Los tres permanecen detenidos en la cárcel del Condado de Lake a la espera de una audiencia judicial inicial esta mañana.
El Sheriff John D. Idleburg declaró: “Estoy orgulloso de la excelente labor de investigación realizada por nuestra División de Investigaciones Criminales. Parecía un caso difícil de resolver, pero nuestros detectives no cejaron en su empeño. Su trabajo condujo a la identificación y detención de los responsables de un delito increíblemente peligroso que puso en grave riesgo a los bomberos y a otras personas”. La Fiscalía del Condado de Lake tiene la intención de presentar solicitudes para mantener a los tres detenidos bajo custodia a la espera del juicio.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives charged three men with arson after determining they intentionally set fire to a Beach Park bar.
On July 17, 2026, at approximately 5:55 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a structure fire at Social Pub, 37895 North Sheridan Road in Beach Park, which caused catastrophic damage to the building. Investigators from the Beach Park Fire Department, the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office determined the fire was suspicious and had been intentionally set.
Sheriff’s detectives conducted an extensive investigation that included reviewing surveillance video from multiple locations, collecting evidence, and conducting numerous interviews. During the investigation, detectives identified a suspicious vehicle that was in the area when the fire began. On July 23, 2026, detectives located the vehicle in the 900 block of Broadway Avenue in North Chicago and interviewed two individuals they believed were involved in setting the fire.
Sheriff’s detectives determined Fernando A. Mejia, 18, of the 900 block of Broadway Avenue, North Chicago, Fulgencio Benites-Gaspar, 36, of the same address, and Estivent J. Mena-Ferrera, 21, of the 3000 block of Caryn Lane, Waukegan, were responsible for setting the fire. Detectives determined Mejia and Benites-Gaspar were upset about being removed from the bar by staff several weeks prior and developed a plan to set the business on fire.
After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved three counts of Arson (a Class 2 Felony), one against each defendant. All three remain held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “I am proud of the outstanding investigative work conducted by our Criminal Investigations Division. This appeared to be a difficult case to solve, but our detectives remained relentless. Their work led to the identification and arrest of those responsible for an incredibly dangerous crime that put firefighters and others at significant risk.”
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file petitions to detain all three in custody while awaiting trial. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
