Wauconda, IL. – Agentes del sheriff del condado de Lake están investigando un accidente de tráfico que dejó a un ciclista en estado crítico. El 10 de septiembre de 2023, aproximadamente a las 7:00 a.m., los agentes fueron enviados a un accidente de tráfico que involucró a un ciclista en Fairfield Road, cerca de la ruta 176, en la zona no incorporada de Wauconda. Los agentes del sheriff llegaron y encontraron al ciclista, un hombre de Waukegan de 48 años, con heridas críticas.
La investigación preliminar muestra que una camioneta Dodge, conducida por una mujer de Palatine de 24 años, viajaba hacia el sur por Fairfield Road, justo al norte de la Ruta 176. El ciclista también viajaba hacia el sur, en el lado derecho de la carretera. Mientras la conductora del Dodge viajaba hacia el sur, se distrajo con los niños pequeños en su automóvil y desvió su atención de la carretera. El Dodge giró hacia la derecha y golpeó al ciclista, lo que provocó que el ciclista golpeara la parte delantera del Dodge y el parabrisas del Dodge, antes de caer debajo del auto.
Cuando llegaron los agentes del sheriff, intentaron tomar medidas para salvarle la vida al ciclista. Fue transportado al Centro Médico Advocate Condell en Libertyville con heridas críticas que ponen en peligro su vida. Los ocupantes del Dodge, el conductor y dos niños menores, resultaron ilesos.
El accidente sigue siendo investigado por la Unidad Técnica de Investigaciones de Accidentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake.

Bicyclist critically injured in crash
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a traffic crash that left a bicyclist in critical condition.
On September 10, 2023, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a traffic crash involving a bicyclist on Fairfield Road near Route 176, unincorporated Wauconda. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the bicyclist, a 48-year-old man of Waukegan, with critical injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows a Dodge SUV, driven by a 24-year-old woman of Palatine, was traveling southbound on Fairfield Road, just north of Route 176. The bicyclist was also traveling southbound, on the right side of the roadway. As the driver of the Dodge traveled southbound, she became distracted by young children in her car, and turned her attention away from the roadway. The Dodge veered to the right and struck the bicyclist, causing the bicyclist to strike the front of the Dodge and the Dodge’s windshield, before falling underneath the car.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they attempted life-saving measures on the bicyclist. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries. The occupants in the Dodge, the driver and two minor children, were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
