Nueva Orleans. - Agentes especiales de Investigaciones de Seguridad Nacional (HSI) del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos (ICE) arrestaron a un residente de Georgia el 10 de abril después de que intentó vender millones de máscaras de respirador inexistentes al Departamento de Asuntos de Veteranos, a cambio de grandes pagos por adelantado.
El caso fue investigado conjuntamente por la oficina de Baton Rouge de HSI Nueva Orleans y la Oficina del Inspector General del Departamento de Asuntos de Veteranos. Los agentes especiales de HSI Atlanta que asistieron a HSI New Orleans y al VA realizaron el arresto.
Christopher Parris, de 39 años, fue arrestado por fraude electrónico por cargos de denuncia penal. Alega que hizo y causó que se hiciera una serie de tergiversaciones fraudulentas en un intento de obtener órdenes del Departamento de Asuntos de Veteranos para 125 millones de máscaras faciales y otros equipos de protección personal (EPP) que habrían totalizado más de $750 millones. Por ejemplo, la queja alega que Parris prometió que podría obtener millones de máscaras 3M genuinas de fábricas nacionales cuando sabía que no sería posible cumplir con los pedidos. Parris también supuestamente hizo falsas representaciones similares a otras entidades en un esfuerzo por celebrar otros acuerdos fraudulentos para vender EPP a los gobiernos estatales.

ICE arrests man in multi-million COVID-19 fraud scam
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents arrested a Georgia resident April 10 after he attempted to sell millions of nonexistent respirator masks to the Department of Veterans Affairs, in exchange for large upfront payments.
The case was investigated jointly by HSI New Orleans’ Baton Rouge office and the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General. HSI Atlanta special agents assisting HSI New Orleans and the VA made the arrest.
Christopher Parris, 39, was arrested on wire fraud criminal complaint charges. It alleges that he made and caused to be made a series of fraudulent misrepresentations in an attempt to secure orders from the Department of Veterans Affairs for 125 million face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) that would have totaled over $750 million. For example, the complaint alleges that Parris promised that he could obtain millions of genuine 3M masks from domestic factories when he knew that fulfilling the orders would not be possible. Parris also allegedly made similar false representations to other entities in an effort to enter into other fraudulent agreements to sell PPE to state governments.
