Crystal lake, IL. – Luego de una investigación exhaustiva, los detectives del sheriff y los investigadores de accidentes determinaron que Samantha Jacobson, de 45 años, de la cuadra 4900 de Valley View Road, Crystal Lake, era responsable de coordinar las pruebas ocultas en esta investigación.
Los investigadores determinaron que Jacobson estaba en un establecimiento de bebidas esa misma noche con Luthardt. Cuando Luthardt se iba, Jacobson sugirió que no condujera, pero Luthardt se fue en el vehículo todo terreno de todos modos.
Jacobson se fue poco después y observó la escena del accidente. Luego dispuso que el vehículo todo terreno fuera retirado de la escena, junto con otras pruebas. Jacobson mintió a los investigadores, indicando que estaba conduciendo por la carretera y se encontró con el cuerpo de Luthardt en la carretera. Intentó hacer creer a los investigadores que Luthardt no estuvo involucrado en un accidente.
Los investigadores del sheriff presentaron los hechos y las pruebas a la Fiscalía Estatal del Condado de Lake, quien aprobó los cargos de dos cargos de obstrucción de la justicia. Se redactó una orden de arresto el 6 de octubre de 2023 y Jacobson fue arrestada por agentes del sheriff el 10 de octubre.
Jacobson compareció ante el tribunal el 11 de octubre de 2023 y fue puesto en libertad en espera de juicio. Su próxima cita en la corte es el 7 de noviembre de 2023 a las 9:00 a. m. en la sala T020.
El sheriff John D. Idleburg añadió: “Desde la decisión de operar un vehículo bajo los efectos del alcohol hasta la mala decisión de mentir y ocultar pruebas, todo este conjunto de circunstancias es desafortunado. No puedo enfatizarlo lo suficiente: por favor, no conduzca bajo los efectos del alcohol, las consecuencias, como fueron en este caso, pueden costar vidas”.

Following a thorough investigation, sheriff’s detectives and crash investigators determined Samantha Jacobson, 45, of the 4900 block of Valley View Road, Crystal Lake, was responsible for coordinating evidence being hidden in this investigation.
Investigators determined Jacobson was at a drinking establishment earlier in the evening with Luthardt. When Luthardt was leaving, Jacobson suggested he not drive, but Luthardt left on the ATV anyway. Jacobson left shortly after and observed the crash scene. She then arranged for the ATV to be removed from the scene, along with other evidence. Jacobson lied to investigators, indicating she was driving down the roadway and happened to come across Luthardt’s body in the roadway. She attempted to lead investigators into believing Luthardt was not involved in a crash.
Sheriff’s investigators presented the facts and evidence to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office who approved the charges of two counts of obstructing justice. An arrest warrant was drafted on October 6, 2023, and Jacobson was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on October 10th.
Jacobson appeared in court on October 11, 2023, and was released pending trial. Her next court date is November 7, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom T020.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg added, “From the decision to operate a vehicle under the influence, to the poor decision to lie and hide evidence, this entire set of circumstances is unfortunate. I cannot stress it enough, please do not drive under the influence, the consequences – as they were in this case – can cost lives.”
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
