Waukegan, IL. – El lunes por la noche, más de 75 personas asistieron a una reunión pública celebrada por la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado del Condado de Lake en honor al Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana y Latina.
El evento, titulado “Conexión con la comunidad”, fue una oportunidad para que la comunidad hispana y latina del condado de Lake aprendiera más sobre lo que hace la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado y cómo conectarse con otras agencias de servicios comunitarios.
“Al buscar justicia para cada víctima y proteger a la comunidad, nuestra oficina siempre estará consciente de que debemos trabajar arduamente para tratar a todos por igual, independientemente de su raza, etnia, género, orientación sexual, idioma preferido o lugar de nacimiento”, dijo el Fiscal del Estado, Eric Rinehart a los asistentes.
“Por esa razón, nuestra oficina emplea abogados y consejeros bilingües y tiene acceso a intérpretes de todos los idiomas”, dijo.
Desde que asumió el cargo, el Fiscal del Estado Rinehart ha enfatizado el aumento de la diversidad de oficinas y el alcance intencional en comunidades subrepresentadas. Rinehart ha triplicado el número de abogados que hablan español y ha duplicado el número de consejeros bilingües que son testigos de víctimas. Estos cambios están diseñados para garantizar que todos los residentes tengan acceso a representación y servicios.
Una de esas contrataciones, la Jefa de Servicios para Víctimas, Jacqueline Herrera Giron, alentó a los residentes a que se sientan cómodos al llamar a la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado y a la policía cada vez que ocurra un delito.
El Fiscal del Estado Rinehart y la jefa Herrera Girón explicaron cómo llegan los delitos a la Fiscalía del Estado y cómo evoluciona el proceso. Los residentes también pudieron hacer preguntas durante una sección de preguntas y respuestas del programa. Se proporcionaron servicios de traducción a todos los asistentes.
El evento también contó con un video, producido por Hilario Donoe, destacando algunos detalles sobre la oficina del Fiscal del Estado y un breve clip del Fiscal del Estado Rinehart que describe sus objetivos y visión para la oficina.
Los socios comunitarios incluyeron United Giving Hope, Coalición Latinos de Lake County, HACES, Waukegan School District # 60, F.A.C.E, Catholic Charities, A Safe Place, Waukegan Park District, Chicago Workers Collaborative, Puro Futbol News y Union Latina WKRS 1220 AM. La mayoría de estas organizaciones tenían mesas de recursos que proporcionaban materiales a los residentes interesados.
El evento se llevó a cabo en el edificio del Distrito 60 de Waukegan y la superintendente Theresa Plascencia dio la bienvenida a los invitados. José Rodríguez de Union Latina WKRS 1220 AM actuó como maestro de ceremonias de la noche.
Al cierre del evento, la cantante Maribel García, quien cantó el Star-Spangled Banner al principio del programa, hizo que la audiencia se pusiera de pie bailando y aplaudiendo al ritmo de una melodía festiva llamada ¡Viva México, Viva América!
El fiscal estatal Rinehart indicó después del evento que continuará realizando más eventos en el ayuntamiento para llegar a las diversas comunidades del condado de Lake.

Rinehart on “Connecting with the Community”
On Monday evening, over 75 people attended a town hall meeting held by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office in honor of National Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month.
The event, titled “Connecting with Community,” was an opportunity for the Hispanic and Latino community of Lake County to learn more about what the State’s Attorney’s Office does and how to connect with other community service agencies.
“In seeking justice for every victim and in protecting the community, our office will always be aware that we must work hard to treat everyone equally regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, preferred language, or place of birth,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart told the crowd.
“For that reason, our office employs bilingual attorneys and counselors and has access to interpreters of all languages,” he said.
Since taking office, State’s Attorney Rinehart has emphasized increasing office diversity and intentional outreach into under-represented communities. Rinehart has tripled the number of attorneys who speak Spanish and doubled the number of bilingual victim witness counselors. These changes are designed to ensure that all residents have access to representation and services.
One such hire, Chief of Victim Services Jacqueline Herrera Giron, encouraged residents to feel comfortable in calling the State’s Attorney’s Office and law enforcement whenever a crime occurs.
State’s Attorney Rinehart and Chief Herrera Giron explained how crimes arrive at the State’s Attorney’s Office and how the process evolves. Residents were also able to ask questions during a Q&A portion of the program. Translation services were afforded to all those in attendance.
The event also featured a video, produced by Hilario Donoe, highlighting some details about the State’s Attorney’s office and a short clip from State’s Attorney Rinehart outlining his goals and vision for the office.
Community partners included United Giving Hope, Coalición Latinos de Lake County, HACES, Waukegan School District #60, F.A.C.E, Catholic Charities, A Safe Place, Waukegan Park District, Chicago Workers Collaborative, Puro Futbol News, and Union Latina WKRS 1220 AM. Most of these organizations had resource tables providing materials to interested residents.
The event was hosted at the Waukegan District #60 building and the crowd was welcomed by Superintendent Theresa Plascencia. Jose Rodriguez from Union Latina WKRS 1220 AM acted as the evening’s master of ceremonies.
At the close of the event singer, Maribel Garcia, who sang the Star-Spangled Banner earlier in the program, had the audience on their feet dancing and clapping along to a festive tune called, ¡Viva Mexico, Viva America!
State’s Attorney Rinehart indicated after the event that he will continue holding more town hall events reaching out to Lake County’s diverse communities.
