North Chicago, IL. – El Alcalde Leon Rockingham firma una orden ejecutiva sobre la aplicación de la ley migratoria en la ciudad, el lunes 20 de octubre a las 5 p.m.
El alcalde Rockingham afirmó que firma la orden ejecutiva para proteger los derechos constitucionales de los residentes, garantizando su acceso a servicios y recursos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio.
Bajo la orden, la ciudad no preguntará ni compartirá el estatus migratorio de una persona a menos que lo exija la ley. La ciudad también afirmó que colaborará con organizaciones locales para crear un espacio seguro donde los inmigrantes puedan denunciar delitos y acceder a servicios sin temor a la deportación.
“Solo queremos asegurarnos de que nuestros residentes del norte de Chicago sepan que los respaldamos”, declaró. El alcalde también indicó que sus oficiales no ayudarán ni asistirán a los agentes federales en sus operaciones ni les permitirán organizarse en propiedades municipales. “No permitiremos que ningún miembro de nuestro departamento de policía se involucre con ningún agente de ICE; no les pediremos que participen en nada”, concluyó.

Signs executive order
On Monday, October 20 at 5 p.m., Mayor Leon Rockingham signed an executive order with regard to immigration enforcement in the City.
Mayor Rockingham said he’s signing the executive order to protect the constitutional rights of residents, making sure they have access to services and resources, regardless of immigration status.
Under the order, the city will not ask or share an individual’s immigration status unless required by law. The city said it will also partner with local organizations to create a safe space for immigrants to report crime and access services without fear of deportation.
“We just want to make sure that we put the word out to our residents of North Chicago that we do stand behind them,” he said. The mayor also said his officers will not aid or assist federal agents in their operations or allow them to stage on city property. We’re not letting any of our police department get involved with any ICE agents, we’re not telling our police departments to be a part of anything,” he said.
