Beach Park, IL. – Agentes del Sheriff del Condado de Lake arrestaron a un hombre que intentó huir tras intentar asesinar a la madre de sus hijos.
El 16 de enero de 2026, aproximadamente a las 2:40 p.m., agentes del Sheriff del Condado de Lake fueron enviados a una residencia en la cuadra 9900 de West Michigan Boulevard en Beach Park tras recibir un reporte de una mujer que estaba siendo agredida por su exesposo.
Los agentes del Sheriff llegaron al lugar y encontraron a Michael Coleman, de 47 años, residente de la cuadra 9700 de la calle 17 en Zion, saliendo de la residencia. Los agentes hablaron con Coleman, mientras que otros agentes entraron a la casa para verificar el estado de la víctima. Dentro, un agente del Sheriff encontró a la víctima, una mujer de 34 años que vive en la residencia, inconsciente y con respiración agónica. Los agentes del Sheriff le practicaron reanimación cardiopulmonar (RCP) de inmediato, mientras que otro agente arrestó a Coleman.
Los esfuerzos de RCP de los agentes lograron restablecer el pulso de la víctima, y el Departamento de Bomberos y Rescate de Beach Park la transportó a un hospital, donde permanece en estado crítico.
Según la investigación, los detectives del Sheriff creen que Coleman fue a la casa de la víctima para hablar con ella. La conversación se convirtió en una discusión y Coleman se enfureció. Los detectives del Sheriff creen que Coleman estranguló a la víctima con las manos y le colocó un cinturón alrededor del cuello antes de intentar huir.
Tras revisar los hechos y las circunstancias del incidente, la Oficina del Fiscal del Condado de Lake aprobó los siguientes cargos contra Coleman:
- Un cargo de intento de asesinato
- Dos cargos de agresión doméstica/estrangulamiento
- Se esperan cargos adicionales
El Sheriff John D. Idleburg declaró: “Las acciones de nuestros agentes en este incidente fueron heroicas y salvaron una vida. Actuaron rápidamente para detener a un sospechoso que intentaba huir, brindar asistencia médica de emergencia y estabilizar a una víctima gravemente herida en condiciones extremadamente estresantes. Este es exactamente el tipo de trabajo policial disciplinado y profesional que cada miembro de nuestra oficina realiza a diario, salvando vidas y deteniendo a delincuentes violentos”.
La Oficina del Fiscal del Condado de Lake tiene la intención de presentar una petición para mantener a Coleman bajo custodia en espera del juicio.
Deputies arrest fleeing suspect
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man who attempted to flee after attempting to kill the mother of his children.
On January 16, 2026, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 9900 block of West Michigan Boulevard in Beach Park for a report of a woman who was being battered by her estranged husband.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located Michael Coleman, 47, of the 9700 block of 17th Street, Zion, leaving the residence. Sheriff’s spoke to Coleman, while other deputies made entry into the home to check on the victim. Inside, a sheriff’s deputy located the victim, a 34-year-old woman, who lives at the residence, unconscious and she had agonal breathing. Sheriff’s deputies immediately performed CPR on the woman while another deputy arrested Coleman.
The deputy’s CPR efforts restored the victim’s pulse, and Beach Park Fire and Rescue transported her to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Based on the investigation, sheriff’s detectives believe Coleman went to the victim’s home to have a conversation with her. The conversation turned into an argument and Coleman became enraged. Sheriff’s detectives believe Coleman strangled the victim with his hands and wrapped a belt around her neck, before attempting to flee.
After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the incident, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges against Coleman:
- One Count of Attempt Murder
- Two Counts of Domestic Battery/Strangulation
- Additional charges are expected
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “The actions of our deputies on this scene were nothing short of heroic and lifesaving. They acted quickly to stop a fleeing suspect, render emergency medical aid, and stabilize a critically injured victim under extremely stressful conditions. This is exactly the kind of disciplined, professional police work every member of our office performs every day, saving lives and taking violent offenders into custody.”
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to detain Coleman in custody while awaiting trial.
