North Chicago, IL. – Más de 200 líderes religiosos y miembros de la comunidad cantaron y marcharon en oración hacia la Estación Naval de los Grandes Lagos para exigir que ICE y cualquier presencia militar abandonen estas comunidades.
La acción pacífica incluyó una marcha por Jericó, dando siete vueltas frente a la puerta principal de la estación naval, tocando el shofar (cuerno de carnero) para exigir la caída de los muros de odio, división y violencia estatal.
Antecedentes
Desde su investidura, Donald Trump ha liderado una campaña para infundir miedo y aterrorizar a las comunidades inmigrantes. Desde el lanzamiento de la llamada “Operación Midway Blitz” en el área metropolitana de Chicago, los agentes del ICE de Trump han sembrado el miedo y la violencia federal en las comunidades, incluyendo un aumento de los secuestros, el uso de agentes químicos contra manifestantes y el tiroteo mortal de Silverio Villegas-González. Los agentes del ICE utilizan la Estación Naval de los Grandes Lagos como cuartel general. Personas, organizaciones y líderes religiosos se han organizado para proteger a los inmigrantes y denunciar la violenta presencia federal en todas las comunidades locales. La acción del sábado proclamará que las personas de fe se oponen a la violencia federal en todas las comunidades y abogan por la liberación y la dignidad de todas las personas.

Praying and march against ICE
Over 200 faith leaders and community members sang and prayerfully marched to the Great Lakes Naval Station to demand ICE and any military presence leave our communities. The peaceful action included a Jericho march, circling seven times in front of the naval station main gate, blowing the shofar (ram’s horn) calling for the walls of hate and division and state-sanctioned violence fall.
Background:
Since his inauguration, Donald Trump has led a campaign of fearmongering and terrorizing immigrant communities. Since launching the so-called “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicagoland, Trump’s ICE agents have spread fear and federal violence across communities, including increased abductions, use of chemical agents on protesters, and the deadly shooting of Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez. ICE agents are using the Great Lakes Naval Station as a headquarters. Individuals, organizations, and faith leaders have organized to protect immigrants and denounce violent federal presence in all local communities. Saturday’s action will proclaim that people of faith stand against federal violence in all communities and stand for liberation, and dignity for all people
