Waukegan, IL. – Waukegan High School’s Weiss Field stadium will see new, permanent lights installed this summer, following an approval by Waukegan City Council on July 1.
The City Council voted Monday evening to approve a Conditional Use Permit for lighting at Weiss Field. The Council vote was the final hurdle to bring permanent lighting to the stadium. On June 25, the Board of Education voted to approve approximately $486,000 to install new lights at the field and the parking lots. The cost includes a $361,814 bid for field lights, and $74,186 for parking lot lights along Lewis Avenue and Monroe Street. The project also includes costs for 10 percent contingency and advertising.
Weiss Field is currently the only high school field in the North Suburban Conference, and the only public high school field in Lake County, without lights for nighttime use.
