Vernon Hills, IL. – On October 7, 2019, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF), apprehended Francisco J. Pina, 18, of the 300 block of Longwood Terrace, Mundelein.
Pina was wanted on a failure to appear arrest warrant for three counts of child pornography, aggravated battery, manufacturing/delivery of cannabis, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance ($250,000.00 bail – initial charges stem from a Mundelein Police investigation).
Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Team developed information Pina was attempting to avoid apprehension by staying with a relative in the 1100 block of Museum Boulevard, Vernon Hills. On October 7th, members of the USMS-GLRFTF/Sheriff’s Warrants Team determined Pina was inside a 6th floor apartment. Pina refused to open the door and the Warrants Team forced entry into the apartment.
Pina retreated to the apartment’s balcony and threatened to jump from the 6th floor, if the Warrants Team got any closer to him. Pina sat down on the railing while threatening to jump. The Warrants Team negotiated with Pina for approximately 45 minutes, and Pina came off the railing, walked back inside the apartment, and surrendered peacefully.
An AR-15 rifle was located in Pina’s possession inside the apartment, along with cannabis which was packaged for delivery. Members of the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group responded to continue the weapon/drug investigation.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following additional charges for Pina:
Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver (Class 3 Felony)
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm) (Class a Misdemeanor)
