Waukegan, IL. – El 17 de octubre, Cristo Rey St. Martin fue anfitrión de Alianza Contigo, una experiencia en donde se siguió un protocolo de sanidad lo que permitió a las familias conducir y recibir alimentos y productos en un ambiente seguro.
La pandemia de COVID-19 marcó la temporada de fútbol 2020 de Alianza y dio lugar a una asociación de CRSM con The Northern Illinois Food Bank, Allstate y muchas otras corporaciones en las que se distribuyeron alimentos y artículos para el hogar a quienes más lo necesitan.
Más de 1,100 autos se formaron para el evento donde 120 estudiantes, profesores, ex alumnos y personal voluntario de CRSM colaboraron para distribuir 30,000 artículos que incluían frutas, proteínas, productos lácteos y artículos domésticos para casi 2000 hogares.
Se le preguntó a Jim Dippold, Director de Pastoral de Jóvenes sobre la logística y el éxito de la operación y dijo que: “CRSM agradece la asociación con el Northern Illinois Food Bank y la creación del evento de Alianza Contigo. Y estamos increíblemente agradecidos con todos los estudiantes, familias y amigos de CRSM que trabajaron arduamente y realizaron el trabajo pesado. Fue realmente un buen día para ayudar al área de Waukegan, es un privilegio poder ayudar a hacer esto posible, pero también un recordatorio desgarrador de la dolorosa situación por la que tantas personas en nuestra comunidad están pasando y luchando. Sentimos el llamado, aún más ahora durante la pandemia, a hacer todo lo posible para ser personas al servicio de los demás, a poner en acción nuestra compasión y generosidad”.
Cristo Rey and Alianza give food
On October 17th, Cristo Rey St. Martin hosted Alianza Contigo, a touchless experience allowing families to drive-thru and receive food and products in a safe environment. The COVID-19 pandemic sidelined Alianza’s 2020 soccer season, and resulted in a partnership with CRSM, The Northern Illinois Food Bank, Allstate and many other corporations at which food and household items were distributed to those who need it most.
Over 1,100 cars lined up for the event where 120 CRSM students, faculty, alumni and staff volunteers pitched in to distribute 30,000 items of fruit, protein, dairy products and household items to nearly 2000 households.
Jim Dippold, Director of Campus Ministry was asked about the logistics and success of the operation;
“CRSM is grateful for the partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the initiation of the event from Alianza Contigo. And we’re incredibly grateful for all the students, families and friends of CRSM who turned out to do the heavy lifting. It was a really good day to help the Greater-Waukegan area, a privilege to be able to help make this possible, but also a heart-breaking reminder of the painful situation that so many people in our community are struggling through. We feel the call, even more so now during the pandemic, to do whatever we can to be people for others, to put our compassion and generosity into action. It’s what we try to do at CRSM.”
