Waukegan, Il. – Las formas en que los programas y las personas de Roberti Community House (RCH, por sus siglas en inglés) impactan en nuestra comunidad siempre están evolucionando y continúan tocando nuestros corazones, motivándonos a seguir haciendo lo que mejor sabemos hacer. Compartamos cómo la interacción con una familia durante los últimos 8 meses nos ayudó a aprender, crecer y romper el aislamiento con actividades que elevan el alma.
Bienvenidos Isabella y sus dos hijos, Rosie y Martin.
Muchos en nuestra comunidad luchan, pero Isabella parece tener más dificultades de las que le corresponden. Después de 22 años de matrimonio, Isabella ahora es viuda, lucha contra una discapacidad física y cuida a su hijo Martin, que tiene necesidades especiales. Su única fuente de ingresos proviene del trabajo de su hija Rosie y el dolor y el aislamiento estaban comenzando a erosionar su espíritu.
Fueron dirigidos a RCH para recibir apoyo alimentario y les dimos la bienvenida. Pronto se enteraron de nuestros programas de recibimiento y otras formas de participar.
De acuerdo con nuestra misión de nutrir a la persona en su totalidad (mente, cuerpo y alma), había algo para todos. Martin ahora participa en apoyo escolar y actividades juveniles en RCH; Rosie tiene un merecido descanso con el yoga e Isabella está trabajando en el jardín, retribuyendo y conociendo a otros vecinos. Continúa recibiendo apoyo alimentario y ahora conoce vecinos que recogen y dejan sus cajas en su casa.
RCH helps family find relief
The ways in which RCH programs and people impact our community are always evolving and continue to touch our hearts, motivating us to keep doing what we do best. Let us share how interaction with a family over the last 8 months helped us learn and grow and break the isolation with soul-lifting activities.
Welcome to Isabella and her two children, Rosie and Martin.
Many in our community struggle, but Isabella seems to have more than her share of hardship. After 22 years of marriage, Isabella is now a widow, she struggles with a physical disability, and cares for her son Martin, who has special needs. Their only source of income comes from her daughter Rosie’s job and the grief and isolation were starting to erode their spirit.
They were directed to RCH for food support and we welcomed them in. They soon found out about our drop-in programs and other ways to get involved. In keeping with our mission of nurturing the whole person – mind, body and soul – there was something for everyone.
Martin is now engaging in school support and youth activities at RCH, Rosie gets a well-deserved break with yoga, and Isabella is working in the garden, giving back, and meeting other neighbors. She continues to receive food support and now knows neighbors that pick up and drop off her boxes to her home.
