Waukegan, IL. – Waukegan Park District will be hosting several GO WAUKEGAN community walks in 2024. The free outdoor walks will encourage individuals and families to incorporate at least thirty minutes of walking into their day.
In partnership with the Lake County Health Department, the Waukegan Park District launched GO WAUKEGAN, an initiative to improve the health and wellness of local residents through activities, education, and collaboration with an emphasis on outdoor community walks.
The GO WAUKEGAN community walks will be held on the following dates and times:
- Spring into Shape Walk on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9am to 10am at Hinkston Park, located at 810 N. Baldwin Avenue
- Summer Walk on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9am to 10am at Hinkston Park, located at 810 N. Baldwin Avenue
- Glow Walk on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 7pm to 8pm at Bevier Park, located at 2255 W. York House Road
- Zombie Walk on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 9am to 10am at Hinkston Park, located at 810 N. Baldwin Avenue
- Winter Wonder Walk on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 4pm to 5pm in Downtown Waukegan*
*The Winter Wonder Walk will be held in conjunction with the City of Waukegan’s Tree Lighting Ceremony hosted by Waukegan Main Street.
Each walk will have a unique theme. The 2019 Glow Walk was recognized by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association with the Division II Outstanding Program or Special Event Award at the 2020 IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference.
Preregistration is not required to participate in the free walks. In case of inclement weather, walks will be postponed until a new date has been determined. More information about GO WAUKEGAN is available at waukeganparks.org/gowaukegan.
