Mundelein, IL. – El personal del periódico escolar producido por los estudiantes de Mundelein High School, The Mustang, ha recibido un Premio al Primer Lugar Internacional de la Evaluación de Medios de Noticias Quill & Scroll 2020.
A pesar de terminar el año en aprendizaje remoto y producir dos números de periódicos durante la pandemia de COVID-19, el personal obtuvo calificaciones superiores en cuatro de las cinco categorías de evaluación para prácticas generales, cobertura, redacción, edición y medios digitales. El personal recibió una calificación excelente en la quinta categoría de efectos visuales.
“Este fue el primer año que solicitamos una evaluación de nuestra presencia en línea, por lo que nos sorprendió gratamente ver que el personal se dirigía en la dirección correcta con su sitio de noticias en línea”, dijo Michelle Didzbalis, asesora de The Mustang.
“El personal y el asesor son dignos de elogio por todo el arduo trabajo que se puso en la publicación”, comentó uno de los jueces. “Este fue un año difícil para el personal, pero la calidad de la publicación y el sitio de medios se mantuvieron fuertes”.

El personal del periódico 2019-2020 estuvo dirigido por la editora en jefe Kylie Carrier y la editora asistente en jefe Hannah Stanley. Otros editores fueron Sarah Parduhn, MacKenzie Stewart, Ashley Cline y Tress Dorfler. Dylan DeBord, Isabella Marotti y Ryan Wilson trabajaron para el periódico como reporteros de planta.

Durante 92 años, Quill and Scroll ha honrado el mejor trabajo realizado por estudiantes periodistas de todo el mundo. Journalism students win award Quill and Scroll
The staff of the Mundelein High School student-produced school newspaper, The Mustang, has received an International First Place Award from the 2020 Quill & Scroll News Media Evaluation.
Despite ending the year in remote learning and producing two newspaper issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff earned superior ratings in four of the five evaluation categories for general practices, coverage, writing & editing and digital media. The staff received an excellent rating in the fifth category for visuals.
“This was the first year we requested an evaluation of our online presence, so we were pleasantly surprised to see the staff headed in the right direction with its online news site,” said Michelle Didzbalis, The Mustang advisor.
“The staff and advisor are to be commended for all the hard work that was put into the publication,” one of the judges commented. “This was a difficult year for the staff, but the quality of the publication and media site stayed strong.”

The 2019-2020 newspaper staff was led by Editor-in-Chief Kylie Carrier and Assistant Editor-in-Chief Hannah Stanley. Other editors included Sarah Parduhn, MacKenzie Stewart, Ashley Cline and Tress Dorfler. Dylan DeBord, Isabella Marotti and Ryan Wilson worked for the newspaper as staff reporters.

For 92 years, Quill and Scroll has been honoring the best work done by student journalists around the world. The organization provides students and their advisors with resources to do great work and to have it evaluated. Whether it is through stories, contests, evaluation service, scholarships or pins and graduation paraphernalia, Quill and Scroll salutes great scholastic journalism at their charter schools.
